Keira D’Amato is known as the “Running Realtor.” She recently ran a 2:34 marathon in Berlin and will be running in the Olympic Trials this February. This was a SIX minute PR and she knows there is more in the tank. Keira is the mother of two and her husband is in the US Army.
Keira discovered running in high school when she was trying to impress her soccer coach and ended up winning state titles in both cross country and the 1600. She went on to run in college under coach Matt Centrowitz senior at American University. In 2005, she finished sixth at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Post college she competed with D.C. Elite but eventually took some time off.
She ran her first marathon in 3:47 and said she’d never do it again. After having her second baby she decided she’d give it another go to get back in shape and ran much faster than she realized she would. The rest is history, she is now coached by Scott Raczko (again) and you’ll get to hear about her marathon progression in this episode and how she balances working full time, running 100 mile weeks and raising two kids. (Hint: she’s got a great support from her family) Balance, in my opinion isn’t a myth if you work for it and have the support you need.
Enjoy my conversation with Keira!
