Episode 105: Aretha Thurmond
Aretha Thurmond is so fun. She is a 4-Time Olympian in the Discus (1996, 2004, 2008 & 2012) That’s a lot of years competing as an Olympian! She tells us about the year in between there that she didn’t make the team in 2000 and how it motivated her to get back at it. She is the Mother of one and tells us about her experience competing in a National Championship just 17 days after giving birth, baby in tow. There is a special bond that happens when a son grows up seeing his mom compete as one of the World’s best in a sport and they had the privilege of experiencing that.
She currently works for USA Track and Field as the Director of International Teams and recently obtained her Executive Masters in Sport Organization Management. Aretha is passionate about healthy living (she even tried to convince me to do a juice fast with her) and she has recently taking up the sport of boxing. I loved my conversation with Aretha and the energy she brought to the table right from the start.
