Tom and Deb Gardner are two of my favorite people I have the privilege of knowing. I met them eight years ago when I worked for Back on My Feet Indianapolis and they were Team Leaders for HVAF Team Warmen. I was immediately drawn to their kind, energetic and giving spirit. These are the kind of people I look at and think- not only now, but in 20 years, I hope I’m doing the kind of things they are doing with their lives.
At the age of 52 they made the commitment to run a marathon in all 50 states and achieved that goal in just six years time. Now that that goal has been checked off they are making their way through all of the other fun adventures they have their sites set on. Currently they are riding their bikes from the west coast to the east coast (averaging around 70 miles a day, with some 100+ mile days in the mix), not only enjoying the trip but also raising money for both St. Vincent Depaul and Back on My Feet Indianapolis – two organizations they feel strongly about supporting.
Tom and Deb have a unique blended family- with 7 kids between the two of them and I’ve always admired how they do life so I had some questions about how they have been successful in blending their families. They are also two of the most positive people I’ve ever met so I ask them to give me tips on how to be so happy and positive. What are your secrets sweet friends? Tom says, he just doesn’t like to be anything but happy and I can see that he truly committed to living his life that way. You guys are going to love getting to know these two special people and don’t be too jealous that I get to live in the same city as them and be real life buddies.
