How I choose to spend my hours.
My writing posts have all disappeared and been swallowed up by weekly podcast posts! I’ve had to shift my focus and you just have to decide what you will spend your hours on.
Speaking of what I choose to spend my hours on. Not getting the house ready for the new baby. I saw someone post a picture of their most perfect looking nursery on facebook (and no this wasn’t for a 1st kid) and it inspired me to share with you what my most perfect looking nursery for our new baby looks like. There’s a crib in there somewhere.
And while we’re at it, this is what my laundry room looks like 5 out of 7 days of the week:
I can honestly say I don’t remember being THIS tired most days during the last month of pregnancy with the other two kids. I guess age and the exhaustion of taking care of two busy people takes it’s toll the third time around.
I have only been working out 2-3 days a week and I am completely OK with that. It is much less than I did with the other two, but I’ve just decided it’s not really all that important to make it happen any more. I need it for my mental health, but I’m totally fine with where we are at.
Yesterday I ran a 5K and it was the first time I’d ran in a week and a week ago my run was 1 mile. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel and was pushing the boys in the double so figured if I wanted to walk, I’d walk, but I ended up feeling great and ran the whole thing. They were heavy, and it took us 31:48 to finish the race, which included me stopping and trying to get Marshall to run the finish with me. He talked about it the entire race and then once we got to the finish straight away he wanted nothing to do it it.
In my past pregnancies I would have been running no less than 3 days a week and no way no how did I ever go a full week without running! Priorities have shifted. I don’t need to run just to run. And swimming feels 9,000 times better than running right now- which I never did in my previous pregnancies. What was wrong with me??? Why wasn’t I smart enough then to swim? I know running more when I’m this pregnant and this tired is going to have no impact on how fast and fit I will be in one year.
While we ran the 5K, Glenn ran the 10K and won the race! This was a local small, not very competitive race, but still fun to win. He ran 37:53, which indicates he is slowly but surely getting his speed back.
I don’t think he will run a PR at Monumental this fall, but I do think he will run a strong, smart race. My prediction? 2:53. Last fall he was diagnosed with severely low iron. Dr. Kary at St. Vincent was basically like “I don’t know how you’re standing right now, let alone running 80 miles a week”. So he took the rest of the fall off (after dropping out at the Barkely Fall Classic in September) and chilled through the spring as well. This summer he has just started taking his training back up and it’s going to take time to get back to where he once was.
Maybe 2017 will be the year we both tear up some long over due PRs.
