It’s been about 7 weeks since Mohican and I’ve been back to normal running for a while now. Following three super easy weeks, I’ve spent the last month or so getting my volume and frequency of running up. Given the time until Monumental, I’m happy where I am in my training. Back to back 80+ mile weeks and feeling pretty good. I’d like to get it up to around 95 to 100 toward the peak but we’ll see what happens. Here’s a look at last week.
- 10 Runs
- 84 miles
- 1 crappy race (tired legs)
Monday – 9.5 Miles Easy
Tuesday – 10.1 Miles Easy (2 runs)Â
Two runs. Both easy. Did the first on the treadmill during lunch break. The second post work with the stroller. It has been a long time since I was on the treadmill but slept in thanks to HandleBar Indy being on Monday night. Don’t think I’ll be on the treadmill much more since I also froze my gym membership this week.
Wednesday – 11 miles. (2 runs)
One workout in the morning. 7 x 1K @ 3:30 with 200 jog in between. We’ve been hitting the track recently for group work. Its been fun. I was happy with the workout and pace. Felt controlled and like I could do one more. Finished the day off with an easy post work stroller run.
Thursday – 13 miles. (2 runs)
Two runs. Easy in the morning for about 7.
Thursday night was the first Thursday Night CRRG Merrell 5K race of the summer. Weather and turn out was perfect. The race was pretty rough. I knew going into it, it was going to be tough given the volume recently and the K workout the day before. Ran 17:50, which is about 20 seconds slower then last year. We’ll see how I do at the next one on some hopefully fresher legs. Pretty sure I can get 17:10/17:15 if everything goes right. Course isn’t overall quick though so who knows.
Friday – 14 miles with Scott.
He texted me the other day saying he wanted to do 60 minutes @ 6:40 – 6:50. I said sure. Of course, we didn’t run that. Probably ran closer to 6:30 to 6:20. Not going to lie I was glad when we hit 60 minutes and hit the cool down. Ended up with 8 miles good work…now if only I can get Scott to live in Indy. 🙂 He is much faster than me and running with him on a more regular basis would definitely be smart on my part.
Saturday – 16 miles. Easy.
I was feeling tired from the week so the plan was to just run easy for 2 hours or so. I ended up joining Lindsey, Amy, Ericka, and Marshall for some Monon miles. Lindsey ran her furthest run this pregnancy – 11 miles and then I ran home .
Sunday -10. 5 miles. Easy, in the woods. Â
I was flying solo Sunday morning since Lindsey went to Bloomington the day before, Â so I decided to hit Morgan Monroe for some trails and hills with the dog before heading to Bloomington myself. It was real nice hitting the trails early on Sunday. Just the dirt, the dog, and me. Cadence was definitely hurting by the end. As the run went on she kept falling further behind but held strong. She’ll be sleeping until Tuesday.
Overall, a good week. Looking to sustain this volume for a couple more weeks and then bring up the intensity with some real strength running as Monumental gets closer.
If you live in the Indy area- you should consider participating in the next two Thursday Night Merrell 5Ks. (August 28th & September 18th) A great way to get a little speed session in and only $10 for a chipped 5K. They also have New Belgium beer post race at the Merrell Store. It’s a win, win, win- work hard, drink beer and hang out with awesome people.
