8 Months now.
Wearing clothes that are too small. #momfail
Marshall is as busy and crazy as ever. I suspect he might be walking by 9 months. I don’t think he’s strong enough yet, but he’s doing a lot of one handed standing. He’s gonna have to strengthen that core some more to stand and walk on his own.
He is no longer the youngest in the family, we got to meet new baby cousin Evan last weekend. Wish I had a picture of the two of them, will have to get one next time. Sorry Marshall, you don’t own the show anymore.
What he’s up to at 8 months:
  • Becoming clingy to Mom and Dad- I used to be able to just head out the door when a babysitter came and he just carried on, now he grabs onto me for dear life when I try to leave. I’ve also been paged by the kids club at LA Fitness twice now to come get him. Oh boy.
  • Having crazy hair- I’ve mentioned this story to some, but the other day when I dropped him off at kids club at LA Fitness, a little girl looked him over and said “His hair is crazy… my hair is beautiful.” I laughed and laughed. And then I was secretly glad she wasn’t my kid because she wouldn’t stop talking. I’m not ready for that phase yet.
  • Babbling a lot
  • Has four teeth
  • Sleeping through the night…all the way, we finally got away from the 5:30am feeding business. He definitely didn’t need it anymore. 7pm-7am. Amazing.
Favorites:
  • Food: Banana mixed with applesauce
  • Books: Happy Hippo, Angry Duck, Brown Bear, Brown Bear
  • Toys: The Foam Roller & his Butler Basketball

Don’t have much else to say about 8 months, so here are a bunch of really cute pictures.
Loves hanging out on the treadmill.
The one hand stand thing he’s up to lately.

Looks like it was easy to get him to sit in this chair for the 8 months pics… it wasn’t.
Two seconds and he’s coming at you to crawl right off. Way to much to get his hands on to sit still for a picture.

Sweet, innocent, adorable, stay like this forever baby boy.

He is ready to run guys. Picking out his favorite gel at BlueMile- he went for some random powerbar gel.

Doesn’t he know mom & dad use Hammer?

Looking all hip and stuff in his homemade hat. (Thanks for the cute new vest from Grandma and Grandpa Hein)

He is eating realish foods these days:

  • Oatmeal
  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Green Beans
  • Zucchini
I make all the baby food, except for the oatmeal. I mean I don’t know how much you can call boiling something and them pureeing it “making” it, but either way, that’s what I do. It’s cheaper and no additives or anything. I like to keep it as whole and natural as we can.

Still on some Breast Milk but mostly Formula. I’m holding on for dear life, don’t want to deal with weening off, just doesn’t sound comfortable for me.

Hanging out at the Back on My Feet Super Bowl Party- 27th Floor of the Regions Bank Tower, watch out world here he comes.

Nicknames & who calls him what:

  • Marshman– Everyone, no seriously… everyone. Even people who have never met him. This is by far the most popular
  • Marsh– Glenn & I and lot’s of others
  • Fire Marshall– Glenn & I (and probably Uncle Joey)
  • The Terminator– Glenn
  • The Marshinator– Glenn & I
  • Marshmellow– Mostly me- but that started when he had the white brace for his hip, it’s pretty much over
  • Bub– Glenn & I- it’s embarrassing really, but we started doing it as a joke and now we can’t stop. I always have to remind Glenn to not say it out loud in front of people.
  • Bubinski– Glenn
  • Buddy– Glenn, Giovann & I
  • Marshy Moo- Giovanna & I
  • Major– Grandpa Greg (Old Pap)

Other things he’s up to:

  • Crawling faster than any baby I’ve ever known. (I’ve actually only really known a few though)
  • Pulls himself up on absolutely everything. Baths can be hard. And Dangerous.
  • He does the one handed hold on now and takes little steps.
  • Still loves a good stroller ride- although doesn’t get them too much in this weather. We got out and put some miles in though when it warmed up a few days. Cadence came along too… she’s gotten lazy in her older years… 9 miles just about did her in… I was literally dragging her the last 2 miles, while pushing the stroller into a mad headwind. Teamwork.
  • Watching praise baby DVDs- we only have one, so he just watches the same one usually about once a day. It’s just a lot of worship songs with pictures of animals, babies, weird faces and stuff.
  • Hanging in the exersaucer while I treadmill it. My goal is usually to knock out at least a decent warm up before he falls apart for nap time. The other day though, he lasted 10 miles. He was so tired he just fell asleep sitting up after 20 minutes, so I turned on Kathie Lee & Hoda, watched them, read my kindle (just put it on the 2nd to largest font… it works!) and stared at my adorable sleeping child for 8 more miles. It was awesome.
Intense praise baby watching. The creepy old guy chewing like a goat is probably on the screen.

Other Good Stuff:

  • Favorite new place: Crawling under the dining room table. Our dining room set has been passed down in my family for years- it was my Great Grandmas. A lot of little crawlers have spent time under this table. My mom said she remembers playing under it. That’s kind of special.
Just exploring
  • Favorite new thing to get into: Cabinets, trashcans – and if you open the fridge, he bee lines for it.
  • Favorite things to play with: Tupperware and paper grocery bags
  • Favorite Song: Itsy Bitsy Spider
  • Favorite Book: Trucks
  • Sleep: Bedtime- 7:00pm, and we are slowly cutting out the third nap… he’s kind of been a monster about getting him in his crib for naps these days. A lot of naps have been happening in mom, dad and babysitter arms. It’s peaceful, but makes it hard to be productive.

With his Best Friend Cadence. He is all over her. She doesn’t really mind and means well, but she’s a dog. We aren’t stupid, we are careful.
Everyone says he looks like his mama.

Look at those arches in his feet. Those are my feet. Sorry buddy.

I had 16 miles on the schedule for today.

Halfway through the week Glenn emailed me with a marathon pace workout for the long run.

It looked like this:

Alternate between marathon pace (MP) and normal long run pace (LRP) using a ladder format as follows:
1/2 mile MP/1/2 mile LRP
1 mile MP/1 mile LRP
 1.5 miles MP/1.5 LRP
 2 miles MP/2 miles LRP
1.5 miles MP/1.5 miles LRP
1 mile MP/1 mile LRP,
.5 miles MP/.5 miles LRP
With a two mile warm up this would give you 18 miles and 8 miles at MP.
I only had 16 on the schedule, but I was OK with adding an extra two. I haven’t yet done a 20 miler since Rehoboth Beach in early December and have been a little anxious about that. (I haven’t because for a quick second, I decided not to do Shamrock (March 17) and just do Carmel (April 20). After that quick second, I then  decided I might get too burnt out before Carmel, and I’m sooo ready for a new PR, so Shamrock is back on and I’m probably going to do Carmel as well five weeks later. I’ll decide if I’m going to try for a PR at Carmel, based on how Shamrock goes.

I liked the idea of this workout he gave me, because it is SO broken up and there is nothing better than having a way to break up your long run…. am I right? (YES, I am)
My plan was to get up around 6:30 and start running around 7:15 to have my run done before the 10:00 Back on My Feet (BoMF) race.  Obviously, the BoMF race would be much more enjoyable if I’d already finished my long run.

I fed Marshall at 5:15 and went directly back to sleep- when my alarm went off at 6:30, all I could think about was how it was 17 degrees out and dark and my bed was amazing. On the other side of the bed, I had Glenn saying “I didn’t know I was married to a slacker, get up, stop being lazy” I told him to be quiet, I wanted to sleep and there was no reason I couldn’t do the run after the BoMF race. So I slept in until 7:30, when Marshall decided it was time for everyone to get up.
At that point, the decision was to enjoy the morning with Marshman and get the run in after the race.

Joe, Barb, Tom & I before the race.
I ran the BoMF race (The Winter Run 5K)  with Joe- he’s around a 9 minute miler, so it was a nice little warm up. I miss running with these guys in the morning. Right now I’m lucky if I get out there once a week, I am looking forward to being at the very least a once a weeker once I’m done working. Right now, it’s just hard to balance everything.  And I certainly miss running the races with them. It was refreshing to run with Joe- I asked him what his favorite part of running was and he simply said “just getting out here and doing it.” You can read more about Joe here.
Joe & I finishing the 5K
I then tried to recruit someone to run my workout with me after the race. No takers. At that point  I had planned on just taking off and running from the race location. BUT, after standing around taking pictures, talking to everyone, I went to my car to put my camera away and it felt so warm in there that I decided to drive home and run from there.

THEN, I got super toasty in my car and walked in the house and decided to just make friends with the treadmill. 90% of the time, I make no excuses for my long run and always do it outside. But no one was home, and it was warm and the treadmill invited me to run inside. So I did.
By this time it was 11:30 and all I had eaten for the day was a piece of toast with PNB & Jelly and a banana. I knew it wasn’t enough but I didn’t want to eat anything else because I didn’t want to deal with bathroom issues. So I cranked up the TM, put on netflix (The League– our new go to funny show, seriously it’s hilar) and downloaded a new mindless read on the kindle.

And here’s what I ended up doing for the day:
3 Mile warm up with BoMF
1 Mile warm up on my own
1/2 mile MP/1/2 mile LRP
1 mile MP/1 mile LRP
1.5 miles MP/1.0 LRP
2.5miles MP/2 miles LRP
1.0 miles MP/1.0 miles LRP

MP- 7:24
LRP – 7:47-8:00

So I missed out on:
1 mile MP/1 mile LRP,
.5 miles MP/.5 miles LRP

(I had a hammer gel around mile 5.5- was still hungry though)

I took out a half mile here and there in the LR pace because I had warmed up 4 miles, which was extra. When I was running my second to last mile MP part, I started feeling really nauseous and my legs were seriously shot. All I had to do was cool down one mile to hit my original mileage of 16 for the day. So I decided to do that and call it quits, I honestly felt like crap.
I think I made a few big mistakes (knew I was doing them and did them anyway)
  •  My legs were fatigued because I ran my tempo on Wednesday way faster than the plan called for
    • Was scheduled for 6 at 7:14- but despite a terrible nights sleep I felt good and ended up adding a mile to the tempo and picked up the pace quite a bit after two miles.
      Mile 1- Warm up
      Mile 2- 7:14
      Mile 3- 7:14
      Mile 4- 7:08
      Mile 5- 7:03
      Mile 6- 6:53
      Mile 7-6:40
      Mile 8- 6:53
      Mile 9- Cool Down

  • At the 1.5 MP part of the ladder workout, I thought I’d have some fun and speed up my marathon pace to 7:19 and add some hills in the “break” the run up even more. Based on my early leg fatigue, I probably should have just left the speed and old incline alone…there was still a lot of running to do
  • I didn’t eat enough
  • I took way too much time in between my BoMF run and my actual training run- a good hour at least. I should have taken off soon after the run… OR gone with the original plan and ran early… OR had a bite to eat and waited to run in the afternoon outside once the sun warmed everything up.
I’m only dissapointed that I missed that 1.5 miles of MP running and feel a little discouraged about how bad my legs were feeling at the MP. While that of course makes me nervous about holding that pace for 26 miles, what I have to remind myself is- I had already ran 42 miles this week, wasn’t properly fueled and wasn’t totally mentally in the game and this won’t be the case on race day.

I’ve never recorded my miles so precisely until this training, but I’m almost certain it’s the highest mileage I’ve ever ran in a week. 58 for the week so far- and I think I’ll do 3-4 recovery miles tomorrow, which would put me over 60 for the week.

While I’m not totally discouraged, it did feel like a bit of a workout fail. This week was a lot of miles at decent paces on some days, quite the difference from my oh so cozy rest week last week. Moving on though.

So anyway…. after the run, we went over to my sisters to help her move a little (Glenn helped, I fed Marshall and hung out) and then went to the store. (We actually made a menu plan for the week… first time for everything!) Marshall is enjoying being able to ride as a big little human in the front. Toward the end of the trip though he kept falling over because he was so tired. 6:30 is too late for this 7:00 bedtime guy to be out and about.

We made enchiladas with our own special homemade sauce and everything- it was DELICIOUS and now I’m on my third bud light lime, ready to read a chapter of half the sky, then watch something that will make me laugh and hit the hay.

And, I’ve got 20 on the schedule for next Saturday… with 14 progression, that should be a fun one.

Happy weekend everyone!

Did you run long this weekend?
What did you tackle? (running or non-running)
Have you watched “The League”- what’s your favorite show that makes you laugh for real?

January:

OK, so this is a post of the year in pictures, and when I started typing the word January, I  realized I wasn’t even really sure January 2012 existed, because I honestly remember nothing from it and have no pictures. Then, I stumbled upon this gem: My best friends and I ringing in the New Year… see you later 2011.

A low key New Years Eve

February:

There’s Glenn finishing his first sub 3 Marathon.

March:
6 months pregnant, still running 3-7 miles regularly

April:

Glenn on the homestretch on Boylston Street at the Boston Marathon

Glenn after his first Boston Marathon

May:

Baby Shower for Marshall.
Everyone plays flippy cup at baby showers right?
36 weeks pregnant
June:

Let’s be honest, this was the year of Marshall.

I stayed very active through my pregnancy, running up until the day before he was born. I also went to a bachelorette party three days before he was born, danced on a boat and had a great time going out with my best friends. Call me maybe? Here’s the Music video.

Leaving for the hospital. Marshall arrived 3 hours later.

Day 2 of Marshall’s life.
The first 6 weeks of Marshall’s life were quite possibly the hardest of mine. I know any new mom can relate.  While I was completely in love with this baby, I was a nervous wreck, couldn’t sleep and was battling some intense anxiety. I seriously didn’t think I’d ever sleep again. The best thing anyone could tell me was it gets better. So I kept my sites on hitting that 6 week mark, and what do you know… it got better.
July:

Ironman training in full swing!
Sleep deprivation also in full swing
Meghan and Josh’s wedding! It’s normal to be in a wedding three weeks after giving birth right?

August:

Celebrating 4 Year Anniversary and Marshall is 7 weeks.
Marshall’s second wedding at 8 weeks
Emily and Andy’s wedding

September:
Glenn with his biggest fans. 5AM heading out on the buses to complete 140.6.
The Ironman. Time: 10:54:46
October:

The 2nd Annual Back on My Feet 42K Relay. I went back to work at the end of September and project number one was the relay.

November:

This pictures are sub par because I stole them from the race picture website. For some reason, we forgot to take even one picture on race morning. Afterwards, I was so cold and felt terrible… pictures were certainly not on my mind.

December:

Rehoboth Beach Marathon. 1st negative split, 2nd fastest marathon.

First time running same marathon as sister.
Marshall’s turns 6 months- first Christmas together.

Lindsey Favorite Race: Rehoboth Beach Marathon

Glenn Favorite Race: Ironman Wisconsin

Favorite Life Moment: New Life -June, 26, 2012, 10:26am

Happy New Year Everyone!

What was your favorite race or experience in 2012?

Marshall turned 6 months yesterday. The day after Christmas. I know I’m always reminiscing about when he was first born, BUT I’m gonna go ahead and to continue to do that. (don’t think for a second I spelled reminiscing correctly without spell check… I can’t even believe spell check picked up what I was trying to spell)
During those first scary 6 weeks of Marshall’s life, all I wanted was to be at that 6 month bench mark. I would see babies at target and their mom’s where just holding them on their hips, these babies seemed like full grown humans to me. Like I could throw one across the isle at target and they’d be just fine. Not fragile and on the edge of death like my actually healthy 3 week old.
I still find myself constantly googling “should babies be doing this at 6 months” or I just ask my sister in law for advice. Let’s be honest, I know how to love this baby like none other, but other than that I really know nothing about babies.
Anyway- WE ARE HERE! 6 months.
This post is going to be picture heavy. There is just way too much cuteness going on these days.
First of all Marshall had his first visit with Santa. He stole the show at the mall. Completely hammed it up for the crowd. The baby was not shy. He was pretty much best friends with Santa… and Santa had just came back from a whiskey, I mean lunch break.
Marshall and Santa coming up with a game plan for picture poses.
Hey guys look at my Bears socks. I’m lucky I’m even wearing socks really. Still haven’t worn a real pair of shoes and if it weren’t for Grandma Peggy, mom would have forgot socks all together.
And I just threw in the picture below to show off the cute new hipster shirt he’s rockin:

Hey Blue Eyes
We spent the weekend with Glenn’s family in Crown Point- so thankful to have married into this group.

The entire Hein Family
On Monday and Tuesday we spent time with my family for Christmas:
Marshall and Giovanna Christmas morning. Chapstick “makeup” is her favorite toy and Marshall doesn’t care as long as he can eat his toys.
Here’s what Marshall is up to at 6 Months:

  • Has two teeth
  • Sitting up always – Two weeks ago I put him down for a nap. He cried for 10 minutes, I went in to check on him once he was quiet and he was creepily just sitting up staring at the wall. Guess he wanted to let us know it was time to move the matress down.
  • Crawling everywhere – Video
  • Ate real food for the first time – Video
  • Puts everything in his mouth
  • No more net in his bathtub
  • Goes to bed at 7pm, still napping three times a day
  • Sleeping through the night, kind of… lately has been waking up between 12 & 3. We let him cry it out unless it’s past 4am & then I’ll get up to feed him.
  • Always happy unless hungry or tired. We really lucked out that he got his dads laid back personality.
Check out that tooth! There’s two of them.
He looks scared here… he wasn’t.
Cadence is such a good girl with Marshall, although we do watch her carefully… he loves her

When Marshall was first born I think someone told me “It goes by so fast” about nine times a day. At that time, like most new moms, I was dealing with some major sleep deprivation and anxiety. I wanted to scream, guess what, it’s not going by fast for me right now and as much as I am embracing my moments with him, I’m ready for him to be a little less fragile so I’m not scared to death that he won’t wake up every time I put him down to sleep. The fear of SIDS lingered in my mind day and night.

I had a few breakdowns to my sister and more than a few breakdowns to Glenn. I had myself so worked up about not being able to sleep that it became my constant obsession. For hours I would just lay there, so tired my mind was crazy and my body so completely physically exhausted. But there I would lay worrying about him and worrying that the second my mind shut off, I would get woken up and the cycle would continue.

I hated it when doctors would tell me to sleep when my baby sleeps. Hey lady, trust me, I’m trying but my brain won’t shut off. I am tired. I want to sleep when he does, but I won’t let myself.

Anyway it was hard, but here we are, we made it to 5 months. We are almost 100% sleeping through the night. I’m scared to say we are completely there, the minute I say that, I’ll be up for an hour listening to him cry cry cry at 3am.

Thanksgiving in Crown Point with Glenn’s family
.Hey mom- my pants are too small, put me in some 6 months instead of 3, thanks. Love, Marshall

So, the video below is the best way to see what the little man is up to most of his waking hours.

We’ll call the video: Marshall wants to CRAWL.

What he’s doing at 5 months- Trying to crawl, talking gibberish up a storm, was introduced to formula, we are now probably around 80% BM, 20% formula. He doesn’t seem to notice or mind the difference. As usual, he is always on the move, if he is awake, he is moving. If for some reason he feels like snuggling I stop anything I am doing and embrace the snuggle, because it doesn’t happen often.

He still likes hanging in the stroller for a good run with mom or dad. It’s pretty official he’s out of 3 month clothes- 6-9 here we come. The jeans he has on in the picture are the only jeans he had so that’s why I had him rocking high waters. I’m pretty sure both of our families think we underdress him… but seriously people, this kid likes to wear minimal clothing. I did make a trip to Once Upon a Child yesterday though and picked up some stuff. Wait till you see his cutie new snow suit. Hope he’ll actually need it.

Hey Blue Eyes.

And lastly, it’s embarrassing to even show this picture- but below is a picture of me when I was, oh I don’t know 5. I had cut my own hair and had a great sense of fashion. Rocking the half top at a young age. Regardless of all that good stuff- I really look like Marshall in this picture. Just call me the neighbor boy. Also, do you see the pink and purple pants laying on the bed, those are totally back in style.

Three weeks till Christmas and I feel obligated to send out a cute little Christmas Card starring Marshall, we’ll see what happens.

Marshall turned three months on September 26th. He is changing so much everyday.
This picture below is right after he rolled over for the first time, which happened this morning around 10am.

Here are a few of Marshall’s favorite things:
  • Mornings
  • Getting his clothes & diaper changed – BIG SMILES.
  • Discovering hands and feet
  • Trying to put feet in his mouth
  • Sucking hand/thumb
  • CONSTANT MOVEMENT – he is his father’s son, if he is awake he is moving (a little sad for me because I’m a big snuggler and I only get those when he eats or sleeps)
  • Bathtime – this is a Glenn and Marshall thing
  • Entertaining himself – in crib, on playmat, you name it – AMAZING.
  • His new noise machine & projector light (loves looking at the ceiling at the pictures)
  • Making all kinds of new noises and trying to talk
  • Music – Beatles, My Morning Jacket, you know the good stuff
  • Hanging out in the stroller while mom or dad get a run in (he’s done up to 17 miles… but most commonly he does 5 a few times a week)
Some of my attempts at 3 month pictures:

While I can’t wait to run around with the little man and hear him talk and say I love you. I would be happy to freeze time and keep him just the way he is.

We celebrated our 4 year anniversary yesterday. It kind of creeped up on us with everything else that’s been going on this summer. We weren’t going to do anything until next week, but decided to just head out for dinner to one of our favorite spots, Fire By the Monon.

Before dinner we stopped by Babies”R”US to return something and look for a cute outfit for Marshman to wear to Emily’s wedding this weekend. The only dress up outfits for newborns they had were $38. No thank you! So he might just have to wear an oversized polo onsie thing I got at Once Upon a Child instead. Either that or some camouflage pants… we are going to be in Dubois county afterall…

One short meltdown later, me feeding him in the backseat of the car in a walgreens parking lot & we were off to dinner. Good Lord, what has happened here? In our previous life…. I would have had a roadie in the car on the way to dinner… OR we would have rode our bikes up to dinner and tipsily biked our way home with our head lamps.

Since Glenn got me the fancy camera, (fancy to us at least) for Mother’s Day I’ve decided I’m gonna get some good use out of it… although I do still need to read the manual a bit more.

Marshall enjoying the anniversary dinner in his first collared shirt. Slept the whole time… score.

And, when we got home, I decided I wanted to use the timer on the camera for some family pictures, you know since it was our anniversary and all….

Photo Shoot take 1:

Testing our camera spot…… perhaps we should use the flash?
4 Years of marriage and 4 years in this cute little broad ripple house.
Marshall wasn’t ready yet.
OK, he was kind of ready, but not really willing to wake up.
Couldn’t leave our first child, Cadence out of the fun.
That’s a little better.
Wake up little man!
Best we could do…. he did not have any interest in these pictures.
OK, go back to sleep.

We have a lot to be thankful for this year. In November, when I found out I was pregnant with Marshall,  it took me getting to our 15 week appointment to really start believing we would actually become parents. On June 26th, God gave us this perfect, healthy little human being to love and care for. That is nothing short of a miracle. I don’t know why I miscarried two pregnancies before Marshall came along, but I know the heartache from those experiences give me a deeper appreciation for this gift. I get to be his mom.

This year when we celebrate our anniversary we are celebrating the Marshman. We can’t wait to see the kind of person he turns in to. So far, he shows signs of his dads content, easy going personality… let’s hope that stays! Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Marshall is 5 weeks old. The first two-three weeks of his life were really hard. Amazing, but hard. I was exhausted, sore from surgery, breastfeeding was painful and I was scared to death every time we set him down for bed. Slowly but surely, everything started getting easier. You can learn more about his entrance into the world on his new pages tab.

Marshall at 5 weeks
Just sitting at the table like an adult.

I feel like I spend 24 hours a day just staring at this little human being, and although I get frustrated for 2 seconds when he wakes me up at 3am every night, as soon as I pick him up and see this healthy, thriving baby, my heart melts and there is nothing more peaceful and perfect in the world. I just still can’t fathom that he literally came from nothing and then grew into a little human inside of me. It is the craziest thing. Ever.

My RUNNING plan: I should be cleared to run next Wednesday and I can’t wait. My mom and sisters and I are all planning on running the Indy Women’s Half Marathon on September 1st, will be a quick turnaround…. 24 days of “training”, but I don’t really care. I want to just run it for fun, but also don’t planning on being a turtle. As I write this, I don’t really know how I will feel, but I am hopeful I can at least run faster than the pregnant pace I had been running the past nine months.

Beyond the Women’s half, I want to sign up for the Monumental– I’m not going to commit until I run the half and see how I feel. I’ve ran marathons untrained before, and am OK with running it semi-trained, but don’t want to be miserable. I figure as long as I get in at least one 20 miler and a couple of 15-18, I’ll be good. It’s just a matter of making that happen.

Beyond setting my sites on these upcoming races– other than Marshall of course, our house has been consumed with Ironman training. Glenn will be doing Ironman WI on September 9th and he is right smack dab in the hardest part of his training. We didn’t necessarily time this perfectly, having a newborn baby right now, but he signed up before I was pregnant. Although we knew it could be a possibility, we have always known that you can’t assume or just plan that sort of thing, so kept on planning and doing all of our other “life” activities. (hence, why I was signed up for Boston this year, but obviously did not run!)

He is doing great with his training, but I know the lack of sleep (even though I’m the only one who gets up for feedings at night, he is going to bed later and getting up earlier) is having an effect on him. He gets up at 4:30-5:00am most weekdays and either rides or runs, then swims his lunch break and some days runs or rides again when he gets home. On the weekends it’s a good 6-8 hour workout on Saturday and Sunday. So, I know he will be ready for the race and realize that to even complete your first Ironman is a huge accomplishment in itself, but he hasn’t put all of this energy into training just to finish, he wants to race a respectable time. I am trying my best to support his efforts and absolutely can’t wait until race day, but trust me, we are both ready for it to be done and perhaps he can revisit the Ironman again when we don’t have a newborn baby in our house!

And the Marshman is growing, he eats like it’s his job (and I suppose that is his biggest job for now) and comes by it honestly as we all know that his dad eats insane amounts of food.

He seriously looks so huge to me in this picture below. I keep saying I don’t want him to be so fragile anymore, but I am truly savoring every minute with him at each stage. I’m in love.

Getting big. 8.5 lbs already… up from 6.4 lbs at birth.
