Ben Bruce joins me on the show today coming off his Chicago Marathon pacing duties! I was so excited to hear all about what that experience was like.

Ben is a professional runner and coach with NAZ Elite, he’s a husband and father to two boys. He is married to Pro Runner Steph Bruce- who was one of the several women he had the opportunity to pace in Chicago. Ben also works with runners of all ages and abilities, along with his wife, through their coaching service, Running with the Bruces.

Ben has represented the US on three World Championship teams in track, cross country and the half marathon. He has also qualified and competed in 17 straight USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships. His career is one of longevity and it’s so fun to watch him excel in both running and coaching.

We discussed the rapidly evolving space of technology and how it is impacting our global running community.

Really fun show today with Northern Arizona Elite President and Coach Ben Rosario.

Ben’s experience in the running industry is impressive – before starting NAZ Elite, he was a specialty store owner, a special events director for a big city marathon and an elite athlete himself. He ran for the Hansons-Brooks team for a bit and personally has a marathon PR of 2:18 and mile PR of 4:03.  Ben has coached runners of all ability levels, and at Northern Arizona Elite, he coaches names like Kellyn Taylor, Steph Bruce, Aliphine Tuliamuk and Scott Fauble.

I loved talking with him about starting his group in Flagstaff and how it came to fruition and their successful partnership with Hoka One One. We get to learn about his coaching methods, the team atmosphere they have with the group and his heart for the sport. He is a fun, upbeat and matter of fact guy that we can all learn a little something from, not only in running but in living a life pursing our passions as well.

What a fun episode. I had a blast talking with Hannah and Ali and actually wanted to catch a flight to Pennsylvania and get a beer with them when we wrapped up. But, the whole three kids hanging on me 23 hours a day prevented that from happening. Hannah and Ali both work for Runners World Magazine and are the faces behind the Super Secret Mystery Meeting.
