Episode 296: Lauren Floris – Co-Host of the Up and Running Podcast! https://lindseyhein.com/2021/01/08/episode-296-lauren-floris-co-host-of-the-up-and-running-podcast/ Fri, 08 Jan 2021 13:03:25 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=12581 more »]]> Hi friends! I hope your Friday is off to a good start.
I debated putting an episode out this week just due to the upsetting and horrific events that occurred at our nations Capitol on Wednesday. It feels a little weird to put out something so casual. I did ultimately decide to go ahead with an episode in hopes that you all might enjoy something light hearted on this Friday. I’ll just quote my tweet here from Thursday – “What happened yesterday was sad, pathetic and unacceptable. American democracy stands for the peaceful transition of power.”
So for the podcast today –  my guest Lauren and I recorded this on Tuesday  before all of that went down. Otherwise I’m sure we would have discussed it to some extent in the episode.
Lauren Floris, co-host of the Up and Running Podcast joins me today! If you don’t know Lauren- She first appeared on this show in 2017 for episode 95 right after she first qualified for the Olympic Trials.

Lauren lives in Southern California with her husband Henri and their two daughters. She runs her own business – Up and Running Coaching AND the Up and Running Podcast while also running really fast. She ran in the Olympic Trials in 2020 and has recently even run a 5K PR on the track!

Each month Lauren and have a casual catch up over on my patreon page for supporters over there and today I wanted to give you a sample (a big sample- this episode is a long one!) of what that looks like each month.

In this episode we talk very casually about life, goals, family stuff and a little bit of running. We also talk about the enneagram,  dreams for our businesses and I’m honest about the struggles about running  my podcasts and network through the pandemic. We also recap some of our favorite episode of the year from both I’ll Have Another and Up and Running.

My guest on the show today is Jenny Jurek – mother of two, outdoor apparel/activewear designer, badass ultra runner (she has 2 100 milers under her belt!), Author of the book “North” and advocate for safe maternal health for women all over the World.

I met Jenny when her and her husband Scott came to Indianapolis and I had the opportunity to host a live podcast recording. Have you ever meet someone who is just the kindest and most easy to talk to person? That’s Jenny Jurek.

In this episode of the podcast Jenny shares with us her career path in the design world and how she landed her dream job working for Patagonia back in the day, how she was inspired by her friend (and past podcast guest Krissy Moehl to run her first ultra. We also talk about her marriage to ultra runner Scott Jurek- how they met and their  journey to becoming parents, which included fertility struggles, two miscarriages, one of which was an ectopic pregnancy which lead to the Jurek’s passion and support for the nonprofit “Every Mother Counts.” I had a great time talking with Jenny and I hope you all enjoy our conversation!

Thanks again to Krissy Moehl for introducing me to the Jurek’s!

First Episode of the New Year on I’ll Have Another Podcast is with my husband Glenn. If you’ve been listening for awhile you may have heard him back on episode 44 when I had no clue what I was doing.
Since there are a lot of new listeners since episode 44- we do cover some of the things we talked about in that episode- including how we met, Glenn’s story with how he got started running and our early marathoning days.
We also talk about my podcast, parenting, what we fight about and what our ennegram numbers probably are.
It’s long guys, it’s a really long episode. I went through it once to edit it down a bit, but all of my kids are up now and I’m just going to let it out to the world with some imperfections that I hope don’t bore you. Imperfections are kind of my thing though, because you know, I’m human and all.
But I do have one request. This is a sponsor free episode and what I really want to ask of you guys is if you have the ability to donate- I am working really hard to raise funds for the Donna Foundation- an organization I believe in and am so proud to support. The Donna Foundation provides funding for Breast Cancer Research and support to those living with the disease and if you’re like me, I know you’ve been effected by this disease in some way. I’m asking every listener and every instagram follower to give a donation to help me meet my goal of raising $10K for the organization. If everyone here gave even $5, we would far surpass that goal. And if you haven’t listened yet- go back and listen to my episode with the founder of the Donna Foundation – Donna Deegan, episode 92!
Alright guys- enjoy this! Link to donate to my fundraiser is in my profile and find my episode of the podcast today with Glenn on itunes, stitcher, google play or any podcast app!
HAPPY NEW YEAR – Thank you thank you for being here!
XO!

Katie Nageotte is a Pole Vaulter for Nike- she’s a 2-Time NCAA Champion and a US National Champion. In 2016, she placed 5th at the Olympic Trials and has since moved out to the state of Washington to be coached under Brad Walker. She has been setting PRs and had a great season this past spring and Katie has big dreams of not only making an Olympic Team but also snagging a Gold Medal. She has committed to dedicating her life to the sport and you’ll hear that in our conversation.

In this episode we get to learn about the sport of Pole Vault and what it looks like to gain a sponsorship as a field athlete rather than someone running laps on the track. Katie also passionately shares about pursuing a healthy body image and we get to hear  about her special relationship with her Dad, who was her biggest cheerleader and passed away suddenly when she was just sixteen. We end our chat with all the fun stuff on Katie’s bucket list and of course what are the best most recent books she’s read. You guys are going to love this conversation with Katie!

2018 Western States winner Courtney Dauwalter joins me today! Courtney has made a big name for herself in the ultra running world over these last few years. She recently became the second fastest woman of all time to finish the prestigious Western States 100 miler in a time of 17 hours, 27 minutes and 2 seconds. She has won a ton of big ultra distances races but one of her other biggest moments was when last year she won the Moab 240 outright by over 10 hours.

Courtney was a teacher for several years before going full time into the running scene and now she’s all in. Though she wins big races and does things most of us can’t even imagine doing with our bodies, she is somehow extremely relatable. In this episode we get to talk about the mental side of the sport and the things Courtney does to stay positive and in the right mindset during big races. I loved this conversation so much and truly didn’t want it to end. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
