Pacing was a lot of fun — and 3:50 was a decent pace to do it at. Following my PR 5 weeks earlier I’d told Matt I’d be game for anything between 3:30 and 4:00 — preferring to stay away from the ends of that if possible as it would be embarrassing not to be able to make 3:30 when it is your JOB to do it to help others and 4:00 I’d be fearful of yo-yoing the pace too much. 3:40 might have been preferable … but I’ve no complaints as my legs are quite fresh this week.

Yes, Christie was pacing a work colleague through her 1st marathon. Her long training run was 17 miles yet she ran a 4:31 and her goal was 4:30. One tough and stubborn woman. And, yes, she is hooked and thinking about doing Carmel in the spring!

Oh yeah it was fun seeing you at the end- unexpected… I didn’t realize you were pacing 3:50! Glad you enjoyed it- it is always something I’ve wanted to do. I think Glenn and I will do it together sometime & for me somewhere around 3:50 is where I’d be comfortable pacing I think. That’s hard that the group wasn’t together, but if more where ahead bravo to them- nothing feels better than a negative split. We also saw Christie finishing around mile 25- she looked to be pacing someone as well! Thanks Dan- I’m going to post Glenn’s report later on today!!

I can sense the excitement oozing off of your fingertips as you typed this! Glad you had a blast! Thanks to Glenn for shouting out my name (an hour or so after he finished) as I went by! Great to see you both if only in passing. I wanted to stop and ask how Glenn’s race went but needed to keep on pace. Speaking of which, pacing was fun — will probably do it again some other time — and like this at a time after I’ve raced and want to do another marathon but not to race it. Only bummer was that I didn’t have much of the group I started with around. A few were ahead of me which is fantastic — but it was instructive on just how uncommon it is to run even splits … let alone negative splits. Congrats to Glenn and I’m looking forward to the Turkey Trot post almost as much as tomorrow’s race report!
