Episode 249: Michael Wardian https://lindseyhein.com/2020/05/12/episode-249-michael-wardian/ Tue, 12 May 2020 19:57:42 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=11947 more »]]> Michael Wardian is everyone’s favorite serial racer and he’s on the show today! Mike has made a career out of doing what he loves… racing. All the time. He works full time as an international ship broker while running a lot of miles on minimal sleep. It’s just what he does. He started running marathons in 1996 and the rest is history. Since that first marathon he has taken his marathon time down to 2:17, has competed in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials and run 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents.

His list of wild adventures and accomplishments can be found HERE on on his website but one of my favorite parts of his story is that he and his wife have traveled with his kids to all over the World to his many races and the characteristic he uses to describe what that has taught his kids is patience and I love that so much!

Episode 246: Jenny and Scott Jurek https://lindseyhein.com/2020/05/01/episode-246-jenny-and-scott-jurek/ Fri, 01 May 2020 16:55:26 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=11906 more »]]> I catch up with returning guests Jenny and Scott Jurek on today’s episode! I am absolutely loving having returning guests on for these fun catch ups. I was excited to talk about one of their most recent big adventures in this episode – they bike packed around Japan WITH their 1 and 3 year old kids! I love that they don’t let having small kids get in the way of seeking adventure and walked away feeling encouraged to do the same.

Scott and Jenny are author’s of the book  “North” – a book that documents their journey on the Appalachian Trail.  Scott put in the miles and Jenny put her heart into crewing him and supporting him on this big adventure.

Scott is perhaps most known for his book Eat and Run and for his 7- consecutive straight victories at The Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run, he has also taken victories in  the 153-mile Spartathlon, the Hardrock 100 and the Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon.

Jenny is an outdoor apparel/activewear designer, badass ultra runner (she has 2 100 milers under her belt!) and advocate for safe maternal health for women all over the World.

Episode 224: Kelly Vigil https://lindseyhein.com/2020/01/31/episode-224-kelly-vigil/ Fri, 31 Jan 2020 12:27:10 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=11705 more »]]> Kelly Vigil is the woman behind the virtual races that give back – More Miles More Fun! She recently raised over $26,000 for fire relief in Australia with over 2,200 people participating in her race for that.

Kelly works full time in fundraising, is the Mom of two little ones only 15 months apart and just completed her first 50K this past fall. Kelly started running in 2011 and since has completed 25 half marathons, 7 marathons and has a goal of completing a 50 miler. She has a unique story in that her fastest marathon was her first and she is motivated to knock that time of 4:48 down, break four hours AND work towards qualifying for Boston.

I love Kelly’s positive nature and go-getter attitude about tackling what needs to get done. I love the if not now, when and if not me who mentality she seems to carry with her day to day and really hope you all gain as much inspiration from Kelly as I did in this conversation!

Amelia Booneis a 4x world champion and one of the most decorated obstacle racers in history. She is a 3X winner of the World’s Toughest Mudder,  a Spartan Race World Champion,  a Spartan Race Points Series Champion and a 3x Death Race Finisher.

Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Amelia works full time as a Corporate Attorney, doing much of her training in the early morning hours.

In July, Amelia came out with an article sharing that she had admitted herself to treatment to address her long-time battle with an eating disorder. You must read her article HERE where she shares about the process. I can’t do it justice with my own writing.

It was a true joy to speak with Amelia, though she’s had some big stuff going on, she’s light hearted, funny and simply the kind of gal we’d all want to grab a coffee with.

Episode 202: Courtney Dauwalter, 2019 UTMB Champion https://lindseyhein.com/2019/10/04/episode-202-courtney-dauwalter-2019-utmb-champion/ https://lindseyhein.com/2019/10/04/episode-202-courtney-dauwalter-2019-utmb-champion/#comments Fri, 04 Oct 2019 11:08:15 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=11487 more »]]>

2019 Ultra Trail Du Mount Blanc winner Courtney Dauwalter joins me today! Courtney raced UTMB coming off an injury that pulled her out of Western States 100 at mile 80 back in June. I would say she took everyone by surprise but in what I will call Courtney fashion, showed up, did the work, gutted it out when she felt really low and came out on top. One thing I love about Courtney is she talks about how she went into this race like she could compete at her highest level even coming off the injury.

This is Courtney’s second round on the podcast- so make sure you go back and listen to her on episode 137 as well – that was right after her  2018 Western States 100 win when Courtney became the second fastest woman of all time to finish the prestigious race in a time of 17 hours, 27 minutes and 2 seconds. She has won a ton of big ultra distances races but one of her other biggest moments was in 2017 she won the Moab 240 outright by over 10 hours.

Courtney was a teacher for several years before going full time into the running scene and now she’s all in. Though she wins big races and does things most of us can’t even imagine doing with our bodies, she is extremely relatable.

In this episode we get to talk about her most recent accomplishments as well as what’s on the horizon… coming up the 24 hour World Championships where she will represent Team USA.

Episode 197: Brittany Peterson https://lindseyhein.com/2019/08/30/episode-197-brittany-peterson/ Fri, 30 Aug 2019 11:38:51 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=11449 more »]]>

Brittany Peterson placed 2nd place at the Western States Endurance run this year and hasn’t sat down since. Some may have called her a dark horse to podium at Western States but she knew what she was capable of all along. Brittany has a background in Skyrunning and shares all about exactly what that is in this episode.

We get a Western States play by play which was really fun to hear as she had a super strong race and took the lead for a hot second around mile 94 of the race. Just four weeks after Western, Brittany was out skyrunning competing in the Tromso 100K, a race with 15K feet of vertical climbing, held a training camp with her boyfriend Cody Lind and is competing in CCC 100K, an event that is part of the UTMB weekend TODAY!

Brittany’s heart is in the mountains and she truly loves the adventure of being out on the trails exploring what she is capable of. She is a dog lover and though she is racing professionally for Nike Trail these days, she is also an Occupational Therapist working in education as well. In fact while overseas in France, she was hoping on calls to check in with her students.

I really enjoyed getting to know Brittany and I hope you will to!

Episode 157: Camille Herron https://lindseyhein.com/2018/12/14/episode-157-camille-herron/ https://lindseyhein.com/2018/12/14/episode-157-camille-herron/#comments Fri, 14 Dec 2018 11:51:36 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=10047 more »]]>

Camille Herron just broke some serious World Records at Desert Solstice. She broke both the 100 mile World Record on a track, in the middle of breaking the 24 hour World Record on the track – running 162 miles in 24 hours. That’s an average of 8:50 pace.

Camille was a long time marathoner – she was known for running marathons back to back and qualifying for the Olympic Trials several times in a year – one year in fact she qualified 7 times in one year. With a marathon PR of 2:37 – she is really speedy, however she has found her niche with this Ultra running thing.

She is the 2017 Comrades Marathon champion – and has her sights set on going back in 2019 to take that title again. Camille is also the World Record Holder in 100 miles over all terrain, as well as the 12 hour world record holder on the track and the 100K World Champion, where her team took gold as well.

In this episode we talk about her transition to ultra running, the kind of training she does and how she has such a tough mind when things get hard.
