Episode 222: Malindi Elmore https://lindseyhein.com/2020/01/24/episode-222-malindi-elmore/ Fri, 24 Jan 2020 12:37:11 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=11696 more »]]> Malindi Elmore just broke the Canadian record in the marathon, running a 2:24:50 and placing 3rd at the Chevron Houston Marathon last weekend! Malindi has a long history in sport with a unique story of getting to the marathon.

She ran for Stanford in College under coach Dena Evans (who has been on this podcast!) and went on to run the 1500 in the 2004 Olympics for Canada. She retired from professional running in 2012 and picked up triathlon in 2015 and went pro after her first 70.3. She debuted the ironman with a sub 9 in a time of 8:57.

During this time she had two babies and just last year came back to running, debuting the marathon in a time of 2:32 in Houston last year just 7 months post partum. On year later she took 8 minutes off that time running the Canadian record in a time of 2:24:50.

Malindi has a full life with two kids, a coaching business and has a great team of support surrounding her. She is positive, uplifting and clearly a very hard worker. She simply loves to run and I love that about her.

Episode 135: Sarah True https://lindseyhein.com/2018/08/10/episode-135-sarah-true/ Fri, 10 Aug 2018 11:22:35 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=9289 more »]]>

Two-Time Olympian Sarah True joins me today for the show. Sarah is a triathlete and she competed in both the 2012 London Olympics where she placed 4th and the 2016 Rio Olympics. She has recently transitioned into full ironman training and just completed her first full ironman at Ironman Frankfurt where she placed second qualifying for Kona which she’ll compete in this fall!

Sarah is married to a former guest of the show, distance runner Ben True (Episode 116) and when I interviewed him we were tracking one of her half-ironman races, so it was fun to hear from the triathlete herself. Sarah and her husband Ben have also recently started a coffee company that many of you have likely heard of with Des and Ryan Linden, called Linden & True coffee. She is fun, smart, witty, with a really solid outlook on life and sport. Truly a fun guest I know you’ll love.

Enjoy!

Run Countdown: 4 weeks https://lindseyhein.com/2015/01/31/run-countdown-4-weeks/ https://lindseyhein.com/2015/01/31/run-countdown-4-weeks/#comments Sat, 31 Jan 2015 20:18:32 +0000 http://outforaruntraining.com/?p=2931 more »]]> Even though Louis came right on his due date, he came 4 days sooner than I expected him. I kind of assumed I’d end up in a c-section on Monday, January 19th.

This is a beautiful thing for a couple of reasons- 1. This recovery has been so much simpler than my c-section recovery after I had Marshall. And I didn’t even have a 2.5 year old to care for then. 2. I will hit my 6 week post baby clearance to run on February 26th. A whole 4 days sooner! Whohooo! Cause that 4 days really matters…

I am throughly enjoying not working out and giving my body this time to chill, recover and relax. At the same time, I am also very much looking forward to when its go time. I have talked before about how I plan to very much ease into the process of building miles and workouts. I WILL do everything in my power to avoid injury. I should go ahead and start doing some simple things like lunges and what not now though. Let’s make that a goal for Monday. 30 lunges on each leg.

I’m even toying with the idea of doing some triathlon early summer to get into great shape, while easing into the heavy running mileage. My big goal will be a marathon PR in the fall, but I want to have fun getting there. When I trained for Muncie 70.3 I was probably in the best shape of my life. I was a very slow swimmer, a pretty slow bike rider and a decently fast runner but my overall fitness was awesome. I felt great. These are just ideas I am tossing around but we’ll see.

Another big idea floating around the Hein house is possibly doing Red Eye Relay as a two man team with Glenn. That would be a lot of mileage kind of soon- so it all depends on if we can safely build to get me there. We will see. If we don’t do the full thing as a two man team, he will probably do the 50 mile option as a one man team. Cause that’s how we roll around here these days. He’s turning into an ultra guy more and more everyday.

Here are some things I’m excited about right now:

Getting a new GPS watch and joining the Strava chat! Glenn has been into it for awhile now and I have to say, I’m a little left out over here. The only starve love I’ve ever been a part of is when he clocked some of my pregnant running miles with me and I get a little shout out. I’m ready to set some course records or whatever you call it.

Getting back to the gym & using my new workout bag. Yep, I got a workout bag for my “I just had your baby present”. Can’t wait to put it to use. It’s a Live Well 360 bag with lot’s of awesome compartments to keep things organized!

And today we had some family pictures taken. They were mostly for Louis to get some newborn shots, but the kid didn’t sleep a wink during the whole session, so we’ll see how those turn out. 15 minutes before the photographer arrived, I looked at Glenn and realized he needed a haircut bad. I was the only one ready for pictures at that point. Whipped up a little 10 minute haircut, put pants on Marshall and we were ready to roll. Looking forward to seeing them soon! Big thanks to Nita and Rhiannon for coming over to take them for us!

What… you don’t have a mattress in your spare bathroom?

Oh and in case your just sitting around with nothing to do here’s a cutie Marshall dancing for you. (It’s kind of long, but the best part is probably around 1:25-1:35 in when he does a funny butt shake thing):

Alright- Glenn’s out running and both kids are sleeping. I’m gonna get on to working on some training plans. Big goals all around, let’s get it done.
