Lauren Paquette is racing the 5,000m at the Sound Running event this weekend and she joins us on the podcast today. She is one of the newest members of Hoka One One NAZ Elite and we get to learn all about her journey to joining the team in this episode.

Lauren ran for Baylor where she has held several school records and finished 7th in the 1500 at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships. After college she ran with Asics for a bit and joined a training group, but ultimately ended up training with her husband coaching her for several years before joining NAZ Elite. I LOVE the story of how she pursued joining the team- you’re gonna love it too. She currently holds a 15:10 PR in the 5,000m and a 31:53 10,000m PR. Though she was an 800-1500 meter runner for years, she now focuses on the 5,000m and 10,000m.

Emily Sisson recently took the win at the Gate River Run 15k National Championships in Jacksonville Florida. She ran a time of 48:07 on a windy day – the 5th fastest time run by a woman on that course. She also won the equalizer race coming in ahead of the men’s champion as well. This was her third national title.

Emily went to the University of Wisconsin and later transferred to Providence College where Ray Traecy became her coach and still coaches her 10 years later during her Professional career. Emily is sponsored by New Balance and she represented the United States on a Worlds team in 2017 and debuted the marathon in London in 2019 in a time of 2:23, placing 6th.

Though the Olympic marathon trials did not go as planned for Emily in February 2020, she finished off the year at the Valencia Half Marathon with a big PR and just one second off the American Record held by Molly Huddle in a time of 67:24. Most recently she won the Sound Running Invite 5K in a time of 14:55 which was a PR for her, as well as took that 15K National Title in Jacksonville.

Emily is gearing up for the 10K for the track trials and is one to be watching in that race! She placed 10th in the 10K track trials in 2016 and has made huge progress in her career since then.

Make sure you tune in today to instagram- I will be going live with Emily at 4pm EST to do a little fun catch up + some rapid fire fun.

Heather Jensen is a 18 time marathoner and 2 time Ironman! Heather has an inspiring story of getting to the start line in Boston as she is running for her first time this Monday in 2019 after 10 years of making it a goal to get there.

Heather ran her first marathon 10 years ago in 4:35 and has progressively made her way down to a 3:21 PR. After setting a goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon, she did but was one of the many people who didn’t make it into the race due to the time cut offs – though she’d qualified by 2.5 minutes! Since her first qualifying race, she’s done so four times and needless to say her first Boston will be an emotional and exciting experience for her after so many years of hard work to get there.

I love Heather’s outlook on training and cross training and truly believe that all her cross training is likely one of the reasons she stays healthy and injury free on the run. She also teaches fitness classes and has her sites set on a fall marathon and her 3rd ironman in the coming year!

Heather is the mother of three living in Utah with her beautiful family and she’s coached by Ashley Davis (ahappypace). In this episode she also talks about how getting a running coach was a game changer for her and it was a total win that her coach specializes in triathlon training as well!

HUGE congrats Heather and we can’t wait to see how you do in Boston!!

Sara Hall is a 2:26 marathoner and a 1:09 half marathoner. She came to the marathon after an impressive career in track and cross country; she’s an XC National Champion. Sara will be headed to run the Boston Marathon on Patriots Day for the first time.

She was planning to run Boston in 2018 but injury kept her off the start line and she’s more excited than ever to take the challenging course this year. We get to hear about her road to the race and how hard she’s worked cross training to get back to running. This is actually the longest time Sara has gone without racing since she started running and she is ready. This is a woman who loves to compete and race possibly more than anyone I’ve ever talked to. (now that I’m thinking this through, I feel like Shelby Houlihan might be up there with her on her love for racing)

Sara is also the mother of four daughters; she and her husband Ryan Hall adopted from Ethiopia in 2015 and in this episode we hear about how their family is doing. I love the way they do life and am inspired by Sara every time I talk with her.

This is Sara’s third time on the show and I always love catching up with her- make sure you catch her first episodes – episode 11 and then a bonus episode after she won CIM in 2017.

Kara is a guest you all have been requesting for YEARS. I always knew once we had this conversation it would be a good one- Kara made me feel like I was talking to a friend I’d had for years. Listening back as I edited I actually felt like I was so comfortable I forgot it was an interview being recorded for thousands of listeners. I hope you guys like that part of the conversation!

Kara recently announced she’ll be running the Leadville Marathon, so we get into that but first we talk about motherhood, her career, different coaches she’s had and so much more. Kara was so kind to stay on the line for an extra 15 minutes – so if you don’t get enough of her here you can join my patreon community for bonus conversation with her!

Colleen Quigley just won her first National Title in the Mile and I could be happier for her! She is a returning on the show for a third time and we get to talk about what she’s been up to in the last year and what her plans for the future are as well! Colleen is coming of a year of on an off injuries and talks openly about those experiences. Make sure you go back and listen to the first two times she’s been on the show- episode 50 with teammates Shelby Houlihan and Courtney Frerichs and episode 103 for a solo episode where we really learn about her back story!

Colleen runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club and made her first Olympic team in 2016 in the Steeplechase and placed 8th in Rio. Her running career started in high school when she realized she had real potential and ended up winning state in the 1600 and the 3200 her senior year. She went on to run for Florida state where she won an NCAA title her senior year, heading straight into competing at Worlds in Beijing where she placed 12th.

Enjoy my conversation with Colleen!

Kristen Garzone is a 7 time marathoner on a hunt to break 4 hours this spring all while raising money for Every Mother Counts in honor of her friend Kristin who lost her life to post partum depression. She is a wife, the mom of one, works in insurance and has a deep love for her dog Troy. Kristen has a great platform on instagram where she opens up about post partum depression and anxiety and advocates for those going through it.

Kristen’s first love was soccer- she played in college but now spends a lot of her time running rather than playing soccer. It seems to be a common theme – soccer players turned distance runners. She is fun, relatable and totally honest about mental health and all the factors that play into getting to a healthy, strong place. She recently wrote an article on post partum depression for Oiselle that spread pretty quick and I hope you’ll read it!

Enjoy my conversation with Kristen!

2018 Boston Marathon Champion Des Linden joins me on the podcast today.  Des is one of the most consistent American Marathoners of all time.  She was chasing down her big W for over a decade and made it happen this past spring on an insane day at the Boston Marathon.

Beyond her epic Boston win, Des is a two-time Olympian in the marathon and also placed second at Boston in 2011, Chicago and the US Olympic Trials and she holds a marathon PR of 2:22:38.

Des recently had a coaching change and is running the TCS New York City Marathon this Sunday coming of a new and different type of training. She talks about taking risks and the excitement that brings to the start of another marathon. She is real. She is down to earth and you guys will feel that in our conversation.

Best of luck to anyone running the NYC Marathon, Monumental Marathon or any other race this weekend!

Jordan Hasay is one of the fiercest long distance runners in the World. She just announced that she’s running the Chicago Marathon this year and I was honored to chat with her about it! At just 26, she already has so many amazing accolades to her name. She was a stand out phenom in high school, winning the cross country state title all four years. She went on to run for the Oregon Ducks where she had 18 All- American Honors to her name.

Jordan now runs for the Nike Oregon Project and has been moving up in distance over the last few years. After she missed making the Olympic Team in 2016 in shorter distances she debuted the marathon in a time of 2:23, placing third at the Boston Marathon in 2017 – a debut faster than any American Woman ever by 3 minutes,  just months after her mother Teresa passed away. She then went on to run a 2:20:57 at Chicago the following fall, again placing third. Jordan had to step down from racing Boston this year due to injury and we all can’t wait to see what she can do in Chicago this year. Jordan isn’t shy about her big dreams for 2020 and beyond. She is sweet and kind and has this giggly personality that’s a little bit contagious. I walked away from the interview happy and excited for her future.
