We’ve got a Bowerman Bro on the show today! Evan Jager is a two-time Olympian (2012 & 2016) and runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club. He holds the American Record in the 3,000 Steepchase and trains under coach Jerry Schumacher and Pascal Dobert.

Evan ran for the University of Wisconsin for only one year before turning to Professional running. It was a bold move and we talk about the decision to follow his coach (Jerry Schumacher) and pursue his dreams in Portland. He finished his college degree while training professionally in Portland. Shortly after turning pro, Evan suffered an intense ankle injury that left him not running for 6 months. We talk about navigating that in this episode, along with moving from a 5k runner to the Steeple Chase as his main event. We also talk about successes and other hard times in his career; like when he he won a Silver medal in the 2016 Olympics or when he was on track to break the 8 minute barrier in the Steeple and fell on the last water jump in Paris in 2015 at the Diamond League. Evan proves that when competing at the highest level, having the right mindset ad being your best self in training and come race day are a huge component to success.

Enjoy!

Michelle Carter is a three-time Olympian and the 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist in Shot Put. She was the first American woman ever to win a Gold Medal in the event and the first American woman since 1960 to medal in the event. Michelle is also a motivational speaker, a makeup artist and she is a person who speaks positivity over her life and the lives of those around here. I was so honored to sit down and here about how she became a Gold Medalist. I’ve talked to a good amount of Olympians on this podcast, a few Olympic Medalists but never a Gold Medalist.

In this episode we talk about when she realized she had a talent for shot put and what it was like following her Father’s footsteps. Her father is Michael Carter, and he wont the men’s shot put silver medal in the 1984 Olympic games. He also played pro football for the 49ers, winning three Super Bowls. Needless to say, her parents were cautious about making sure she chose the sport because SHE wanted to and then empowered her to be the best she could be once she decided to pursue it. We also talk about her faith, her love for make-up and looking her best even while competing and her passion for spreading the message that we were all created uniquely and have different body types and gifts and it’s up to us to decide what those gifts are and the embrace that.

Thank you USA Track & Field for introducing my to Michelle and hosting us for the interview!

Enjoy my conversation with Michelle!

I’ll Have Another Podcast Episode 47: Sarah Brown

Sarah is a 2-Time USATF World Championships team member and professional track & field athlete for Team New Balance. She is also a new mom to baby Abigail Ann Brown. As a a multiple-time national champion at the high school and collegiate level, as well as current national and world record holder at the high school, collegiate and professional levels, Sarah is  preparing for the 2017 World Championships in London. Sarah’s journey to compete at the Olympic Trials in 2016 after the birth of her first child, Abigail, just 4 months prior has been documented on an ESPN 30 for 30 web series.

In this episode, Sarah and I talk about her unexpected pregnancy in 2015 when she was in the best shape of her life and how she trained through that pregnancy and post partum for the 2016 Olympic Trials. Sarah is a big fan of using cross training to stay healthy and adding longevity to her career. She shares what she does for cross training and what it’s like to have her husband as her coach. We also talk about being a new mom and what comes along with that new title on top of a rigorous training schedule. Sarah was such a pleasant, sweet person to chat with and I was honored to have the opportunity to hear about what she’s been up to and what her upcoming plans are!

Emily Infeld is an American middle and long distance runner. She will be representing the USA in RIO at the Olympics in the 10,000 m this August!  I had a couple of people request to have her on the show, so I reached out and she responded right away and agreed to chat with me. I was super pumped as I literally sent her a measly little message on instagram and wondered if she’d even see the message.

In this episode, Emily and I talk about her life growing up, when she fell in love with running and her experiences running for Georgetown and professionally. We also talk about overcoming injury as a professional athlete and how she has handled that both mentally and physically. Emily was super fun and chatty – I felt like I was talking to one of my girlfriends I’ve known forever. You know we get into the Bachelorette, snap chat and all the fun stuff she’s diggin’ these days.

More about Emily’s Running Career:

She had a successful collegiate career at Georgetown University where she was a double indoor Big East Conference champion in the 3,000 m and the mile, the 3,000 m winner at the NCAA Indoor Championships and the runner-up in the 1500 m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Post college Emily went on to run professionally for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club. She represented the USA at the 2013 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and placed third in the 10.000 m at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2015. Emily finished third in the 10,000 m at the 2015 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, gaining selvetion for the national team alongside Molly Huddle and Shalane Flanagan. She won the bronze medal in the 10,000 m at the 2015 Bejiing World Championships. Most recently Emily ran in the 2016 Olympics Trials and will be representing the USA in the 10,000 m in Rio at the summer games.
