Amy recently announced her retirement from professional running. She is now going to be a coach with Puma and coach alongside her husband Alistair Cragg. This is a new professional team training in the Raleigh area. When I talked with Erin Longin of Puma on Episode 306 we talked about how Puma is getting more involved in the distance running scene and we get to hear more about that in this conversation with Amy.

Amy had such an amazing professional running career herself. She placed 9th at the 2016 Olympics in the marathon. That was the year that Amy, Shalane Flanagan and Des Linden all took top 10 at the Olympics. We hear more in this episode about how she really felt about that experience. One of the biggest highlights of her career was when Amy won the bronze medal at the World Championships in 2017. She breaks that race down in this episode. She has a marathon PR of 2:21:42 and she also made the 2012 Olympics in the 10k.

Amy trained with the Bowerman Track Club and in this episode she shares with us about what it was like being coached by Jerry Schumacher and training with Shalane Flanagan.

I’ve wanted to interview Amy on this podcast for a long time so this was such a fun interview to do! I hope you all enjoy my conversation with Amy.

Episode 312: JJ Santana – Healthy mindset with racing, 2:17 debut marathon & pacing duties at the Marathon Project for Sara Hall https://lindseyhein.com/2021/04/23/episode-312-jj-santana-healthy-mindset-with-racing-217-debut-marathon-pacing-duties-at-the-marathon-project-for-sara-hall/ Fri, 23 Apr 2021 10:02:06 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=12739 more »]]> JJ Santana is on a mission to run his fastest times at 34 and there’s a lot to sit back and watch. He debuted the marathon just two years ago at CIM in a time of 2:17, qualifying him for the Olympic Trials. He also had the super cool and fun job of pacing Sara Hall at the Marathon Project back in December and he shares about how he landed that duty in this episode.

In this episode we dig into his pacing duties pacing Sara at the Marathon Project and we also talk about his big dream goals for his own running career which is blossoming! He has only really raced two marathons and has a goal of breaking 2:14 this summer and even bigger plans beyond that.

One of my favorite parts of this conversation is when he talks about mindset and how he feels about racing. I hope it will help all of us reset how we think about it and enjoy it just a little bit more!

This was a super long conversation so I pulled out a couple of parts and those pieces will be up on Patreon for extended conversation if anyone is interested in hearing more! You can access that at Patreon.com/LindseyHein. I drop bonus episodes over there every single Wednesday.

Big thanks to listener Gieselle for suggesting JJ for the show!

5:05- Having COVID and how he is feeling now

10:40- JJ’s journey of getting into running

Episode 173: Kara Goucher https://lindseyhein.com/2019/04/05/episode-173-kara-goucher/ https://lindseyhein.com/2019/04/05/episode-173-kara-goucher/#comments Fri, 05 Apr 2019 12:27:44 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=10213 more »]]>

Kara Goucher is a two time Olympian, a Silver medalist in the World Championships in the 10K, a mother, a wife, an author, and a women’s running community builder. Kara’s career is long and not one without hardship and injuries. In her decades of running she also grabbed third place in both the NYC and Boston Marathon.

Kara is a guest you all have been requesting for YEARS. I always knew once we had this conversation it would be a good one- Kara made me feel like I was talking to a friend I’d had for years. Listening back as I edited I actually felt like I was so comfortable I forgot it was an interview being recorded for thousands of listeners. I hope you guys like that part of the conversation!

Kara recently announced she’ll be running the Leadville Marathon, so we get into that but first we talk about motherhood, her career, different coaches she’s had and so much more. Kara was so kind to stay on the line for an extra 15 minutes – so if you don’t get enough of her here you can join my patreon community for bonus conversation with her!

What an honor to have Meb Keflezighi on the show today! Meb is truly a legend in the sport of running. Meb is an Olympic Silver Medalist in the Marathon, he is a NYC Marathon and Boston Marathon Champion and had a marathon career with crazy longevity. Meb was born in Eritera and his family came to the United States in 1987 – we get to hear about that piece of his life in the beginning of the episode – which is a huge part of hist story and the person that he is.

Meb ran for UCLA where he ran four NCAA championships and went on to hold the American Record in the 10K and compete Professionally for over 20 years running 26 competitive marathons after college. Meb is the Father of three, married to his wife Yordanos for 15 years.

We all love Meb. It’s his honesty, his courage, his confidence and his humility We’ve seen him accomplish big goals and create some of the most incredible moments in the history in the sport of running. Like winning the Boston Marathon in 2014. I don’t know where you were when that happened by t I was on the course running and celebrating with everyone ese who was experiencing the joy and redemption it made us all feel just a year after the Boston bombings.

Meb has shown us a beautiful journey as e’ve all followed his career over the years. The longevity of it. The heart behind it. The hard races that maybe didn’t go as planned but we watched as he made the most of those circumstances. We saw him get back up and belive in what he was truly capable of time and time again.

I hope you enjoy listening to this conversation with Meb as much as I loved having it!

Enjoy!

Two returning guests on the show today. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know some members of the NAZ Elite group and when Ben and Scott published their book “Inside a Marathon“, it made sense to bring them back on to chat. The cool thing about the running community is everyone is usually out to support one another and I want to see this book do really well for these guys who put so much heart into it. I love learning about their program.

You heard from Scott on this podcast fairly recently in episode 146 and Coach Ben in episode 140 – both episodes you get to know them on a deeper level, but today we talk about the NYC Marathon; where Scott placed 7th and second American running a 2:12:28! We also talk about training and how they wrote this unique and inspiring book and Scott and I might have a little race bet going for Boston in the spring.

Enjoy my conversation with Scott & Ben!

CIM Champion Emma Bates joins me today on the show! She debuted the marathon in 2:28 to take the win in California on Sunday. If you hadn’t hear of Emma before Sunday- you have now and you better put her on your radar for female runners doing big things! Emma is currently not a sponsored athlete and actually works as a nanny part time on top of running 100+ mile weeks. Just last year in fact she was working at both Whole Foods and as a Nanny while she trained and ran a half marathon PR of 71 minutes. You may have noticed her jersey said she was running for Camp Fire Relief- and you’ll learn all about that in this episode.

Emma lives in Idaho with her fiance who is also her coach and trains with him (he’s a sub 4 minute miler!) and she occasionally trains with a few other athletes he coaches as well. They are passionate about growing the running community in Idaho and have proven they have a smart method for training. Emma is excited to run in the 2020 trials and it’s clear she will use her platform to make waves for something more meaningful than just running itself.

Enjoy my conversation with Emma!

Marathon World Record Holder Paula Radcliffe joined me for a live podcast with the New York Road Runners at their RUNCENTER the day before the TCS New York City Marathon!

Paula has an extensive list of accomplishments, but some that top the charts- she is a three time NYC Marathon champion, a three time London Marathon champion and a Chicago Marathon Champion. Her Record in the marathon, set in 2003 in London in a time of 2:15:25 still stands today, 15 years later. Paula is the mother of two and is still actively involved in the running community.

Enjoy my conversation with Paula – LIVE at the NYRR RUNCENTER!
