I’ll Have Another https://lindseyhein.com Fri, 23 Apr 2021 10:02:06 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=7.0 Episode 312: JJ Santana – Healthy mindset with racing, 2:17 debut marathon & pacing duties at the Marathon Project for Sara Hall https://lindseyhein.com/2021/04/23/episode-312-jj-santana-healthy-mindset-with-racing-217-debut-marathon-pacing-duties-at-the-marathon-project-for-sara-hall/ Fri, 23 Apr 2021 10:02:06 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=12739 more »]]> JJ Santana is on a mission to run his fastest times at 34 and there’s a lot to sit back and watch. He debuted the marathon just two years ago at CIM in a time of 2:17, qualifying him for the Olympic Trials. He also had the super cool and fun job of pacing Sara Hall at the Marathon Project back in December and he shares about how he landed that duty in this episode.

In this episode we dig into his pacing duties pacing Sara at the Marathon Project and we also talk about his big dream goals for his own running career which is blossoming! He has only really raced two marathons and has a goal of breaking 2:14 this summer and even bigger plans beyond that.

One of my favorite parts of this conversation is when he talks about mindset and how he feels about racing. I hope it will help all of us reset how we think about it and enjoy it just a little bit more!

This was a super long conversation so I pulled out a couple of parts and those pieces will be up on Patreon for extended conversation if anyone is interested in hearing more! You can access that at Patreon.com/LindseyHein. I drop bonus episodes over there every single Wednesday.

Big thanks to listener Gieselle for suggesting JJ for the show!

He’s a 2:34 marathoner and 1:12 half marathoner. He also really loves lifting weights as well- which I was excited to hear more about because I’ve been into lifting myself these days!

Last March he suffered from blood clots in his lungs and shares about that experience and how he’s doing now! He has a great perspective on everything and it was truly refreshing to talk with him for the show!

SIDE NOTE- My mic didn’t turn on right for this episode and my end is kind of low on volume and a bit staticky. I’m so annoyed with myself! I hope it’s not too annoying- such a rookie move for someone who is not a rookie anymore.

This was a huge break through race for Andrea as hit the Olympic Standard for the first time (Olympic Standard is 2:29:30) AND she became the third fastest marathoner from Mexico of all time.

Andrea has a remarkable story of pursuing her passion even when others told her to move on. She ran her first race at the age of 18 when she entered a 10K. Though Andrea ran in college, she didn’t realize what her potential really was until a few years ago at the age of 25 when she started working with her coach. She ran her first marathon in Houston 2020 in a time of 2:32, missing the Olympic Standard. Later in 2020 she ran the World Half Championships in 1:10, setting herself up for confidence to hit the standard at the Marathon Project.

Enjoy my conversation with Andrea!

13:10- What life was like growing up in Mexico City

Normally this is where you would be listening to a new episode of IHA. The episode I planned to release this week was Olympian Nick Willis. It’s a great episode which I can’t wait to share with all of you but given the current events in our World it just doesn’t feel right to release it right now.

For now, we are pausing and stepping back and letting other people do the talking.

I hope we will all educate ourselves on race and the history of black plight in our country. I am committed to listening and examining my own life and will take action with how I raise my family and connect with my community to be a voice for justice and equality.

We will continue to deliver weekly fun light hearted, relevant and interesting conversations with runners, athletes, coaches of all backgrounds and abilities.

If anyone has a conversation that they feel needs to be heard on IHA, I’d love to hear about it and you can email me at Lindsey@sandyboyproductions.com

For now be well and stay safe everyone. See you soon!
