GOING BACK to Jacksonville, FL for the Donna Marathon weekend on Sunday, February 4th!

This is the most special community and event I go to all year and it will be my 6th year partnering with the Donna Foundation and Visit Jacksonville for this amazing weekend.

The course is flat and FUN! It starts and finishes on the beautiful Jacksonville Beach (no sand running though!!). My favorite part is one of the streets around mile 10 or 11 of the half marathon where there are tons of flamingos and pink paper mache hanging with great music. You are so close to the finish and it’s just so uplifting.

This race is the National Marathon to finish Breast Cancer and funds go to support those walking through a diagnosis as well as helping fund groundbreaking research as they partner with the Mayo Clinic.

Come run with me!! February is the perfect time to get down to FL and run a race. It’s great timing if you are training for a spring marathon as well if you need to tune up and just see where you are fitness wise.

The official race hotel is at the Courtyard Jacksonville Beach Oceanfront. (Hello oceanfront rooms!!) and we will be having a really fun post race party on Sunday so make sure you book through Monday!

Visit Breastcancermarathon.com and use the code “lindsey10” for 10% off your registration for any of the races that weekend.

Who’s in?? Can’t wait to see you if so!

PS – YES I will also be at the Olympic Marathon Trials that weekend in Orlando…. the good news is Jacksonville is only 2 hours from Orlando so I’ll be driving over at the trials in the later afternoon!

Gonna be a weekend to remember!!!

Julie Stackhouse is a running coach and accomplished runner residing in Jacksonville, FL. When I recently finished the Donna Half Marathon last weekend I met so many runners who are coached by Julie and suggested I interview her! She’s also recent guest, Amanda Napalitano’s coach.

She is an experienced USA Track & Field Levels I, II and III certified coach with Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Health and Exercise Science from Furman University, where she was a scholarship track and cross country athlete.  She coached at Division I programs across the country collegiately for over a decade before making personal training and wellness coaching a full-time pursuit.

While coaching is her passion, she also still competes herself – with a half marathon PR of 1:16:54. Last year while racing the Donna Half Marathon, she was viciously attacked by a dog and suffered some major post traumatic stress from that event.  Although she didn’t really want the attention about what happened, Runner’s World picked up the story. In this episode we talk about moving forward from that event and how she has so bravely faced her fears. She complete the Donna Half marathon again this year and had a team of people lining the street where the attack happened. She completed the race in 1:23:04.

Julie is just one more person involved in the Donna Marathon weekend that I will call a friend and she also shares while this weekend is so important in her own life as well as her Mom battled breast cancer last year. Friends- get this race on your 2021 schedule!

I had some coaching questions we ran out of time to get into so I’m going to have Julie back on for a patreon episode TOMORROW! For those who support the show over there you’ll get access to that episode where we will learn about her coaching philosophy!

Amanda Napolitano just qualified for the Boston Marathon after 20 years of marathoning!  Amanda ran her first marathon in October 2001 right after 911 at the Marine Corps Marathon. In February of 2004, she ran her PR in Austin, Texas of 3:41:26 – 26 seconds off of a then Boston qualifying time. This incredible woman, who is the mother of two took a break from the Boston quest after her daughters were born but stopped counting the number of marathons she’s run… she assumes it’s 35+. This past Sunday her dream to qualify for Boston came true when she ran a 3:47:45.  Amanda was also a Galloway Program Director/Trainer for 15 years. The Galloway method being a staying system that she uses in her own training still today.

Amanda works as the Executive Director for the Donna Foundation and puts on the Donna Marathon every February – a race that I attend every year. The Donna Foundation was founded by Donna Deegan, a three time breast cancer survivor (episode 92… make sure you listen).  The mission at the Donna Foundation is to provide financial assistance and support to those living with breast cancer and fund ground breaking breast cancer research.

Together with the help of so many listeners  last year we raised over $11K for the Donna Foundation last year and I couldn’t be more thankful for the community here that came together to make that happen. Amanda even gets to tell us in this episode where those dollars went.

Do you ever talk to someone who just feels like home? You feel like you could talk all day and look to them for guidance and support in your life? That’s how I feel with Amanda. She’s a special woman and I’m so thankful to know her.

Stephanie Bruce ran an impressive PR of 2:29:21 at CIM just weeks after placing 11th at the NYC Marathon. The PR was set from 7 years ago, a time she ran before she had both of her kids.

Steph runs for NAZ Elite and if you haven’t heard my first conversation with her where you can learn a little more depth about her career, make sure to check out episode 130 of the podcast!

In this episode Steph shares with us what the decision making process to go ahead and run CIM so soon after NYC looked like and what she actually felt like during the race where she did grab that PR. She also talks to us about her plans for 2019 and thoughts on going for another marathon before the trials in the fall. She is wise and kind and I always love chatting with her!

Enjoy!

Donna Deegan is the Founder of the Donna Marathon in Jacksonville, Florida. She is the mother of two and a three-time survivor of breast cancer. In 1999, she began her battle, with recurrences in 2002 and 2007. She is the founder of The Donna Foundation, which provides the necessary funds to care for local women living with breast cancer. They are doing incredible things at the Donna Foundation and you’ll get to hear all about that in this episode. Donna is the author of two books and a former weekday television anchor on First Coast News at WTLV/WJXX.

In this episode of the podcast, we talk about the Donna Marathon (I’m running it in February – can’t wait!), but the biggest portion of this conversation is focused on the power of positive thinking and actively working toward living a life full of gratitude everyday. There were so many times in the episode that I wanted to just stop and take notes. It’s one of the messages that reinforces what’s really important in life.

So the question you’ll walk away asking yourself is “What are you going to do about living?”

If you enjoy this episode, I would appreciate it so much if you’d share it with anyone who you think might also enjoy it!  And come run the Donna Marathon with me! (Use the code “Lindsey15” to get 15% off!)

Episode 85 of I’ll Have Another was so fun to record. Jen has been one of my most requested guests for the show. I’ve been friends with Jen on the internet for a long time and it was fun to actually hear her voice and chat about all things running and family. One thing I’ve been able to admire from afar for all these years is her independence, her love for running, and also the balance she seems to place on it while prioritizing family and fun.

Jen comes from a family of speedy runners and is a 1:15 half marathoner. She is currently training for the Philly Marathon where she hopes to qualify for the Olympic Trials. In this episode we talk about training in between having babies, and we also talk about how she executes workouts in such a way that she saves enough to lay it all out there on race day. I also maybe sort of invited myself on her family vacation this winter, so there’s that.
