She specifically coaches the distance women’s team and her husband coaches the men. In 2018, Maurica coached the team to a 9th place finish which was the best finish for them since 2012. She is off to a great start helping develop athletes so well.

Prior to the University of Washington, she was the assistant coach at the University of Oregon where she helped the women’s cross country program go from not having qualified for the NCAA champions in 5 years to being the team NCAA runner ups in 2007 & 2008 and then becoming the national champion team in 2012 & 2016.
In 2016, Maurica was the NCAA Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. (wait until you hear her share about their team winning the Cross Country title that year!) In 2016 the team also went on to win the triple crown where Oregon won Cross country, indoor track & outdoor track national titles. During her time there she coached 6 track and field individual NCAA champions, 20 cross country All-Americans, and 79 track All Americans at Oregon. She coached some great runners during her time there including Jordan Hasay, Nicole Blood, Laura Roesler, Katie Rainsberger, Alexi Pappas, etc.

Prior to coaching, Maurica had great success in her own running- she was a 6 time state champion in track in Massachusetts, ran at Stanford and has top 10 all-time marks for Stanford in indoor 800, outdoor 800 & 1500m. She was also All-American in 2002 where she was 5th in the 1500m & indoor DMR (3rd).

In this episode, Maurica and I talk about her coaching career (of course!), how she recruits, how she talks with athletes about both the simple topics AND the hard topics. I appreciated Maurica’s honesty over the course of the conversation and left wanting to go grab a a margarita with her because her energy and her laugh were just so contagious.

I’ll Have Another Podcast Episode 75: Jessica Hofheimer https://lindseyhein.com/2017/08/04/ill-have-another-podcast-episode-75-jessica-hofheimer/ https://lindseyhein.com/2017/08/04/ill-have-another-podcast-episode-75-jessica-hofheimer/#comments Fri, 04 Aug 2017 11:06:30 +0000 http://test-lh-test.pantheonsite.io/?p=5273 more »]]>

For Episode 75 of I’ll Have Another Podcast, I had a wonderful conversation with my friend Jessica Hofheimer. Jessica is the mother of three and she lives on the east coast with her kids and husband Robert. She is a runner, a new swimmer, a pilates instructor, a running coach and so much more.

Jessica went from a 5:36 marathon to a 3:11 marathon over the course of a few years and she recently has overcome a battle with over training. She suffered severe GI distress when she was running really fast times for a long time and finally decided it was time to figure out what was really going on. She worked closely with Tawnee Prazak and used Inside Tracker to get down to the bottom of her issues. She also recently has been overcoming a foot injury and has found great joy in swimming.

In this episode we get into the details of what over training looked like- how looking back she could see that something wasn’t right and what the freedom of being healthy is feeling like now. Jessica is currently teaching pilates to an amazing woman, Andrea Peet, who has ALS and is running her fall half marathon to raise money for Andrea’s foundation.

I loved my conversation with Jessica and I know you will too!

500 Festival Mini Mini

My family loves the 500 Festival Mini Marathon so much and this year we can’t wait to participate in the Mini Mini! The Mini Mini is a timed fun run designed specifically for kids ages 5 – 12. It gives kids with an experience similar to the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, that’s sized just for them. The race includes course entertainment, massive cheering sections, participant timing, and the coveted mini-mini medal (a smaller replica of the Indy Mini medal). All participants will start and finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s famed Yard of Bricks.

There are five different race distances will be offered, ranging from half a mile to 2.5 miles, so participants to select the race that best meets their age and ability.

The race is Sunday, September 17 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway- open to kids ages 5-12 and guardians can pre-register their mini runner for $15 at IndyMini.com. As I’ll Have Another listeners can use the code Another17 to save $3 on your mini-mini registration.
