He ran his first marathon very quickly after turning Pro in 2:16 and since then has ripped a 61:44 half in Houston and has a full year of training with NAZ Elite under his belt. It is exciting to see what that will produce this weekend.

Originally from Canada, Rory moved to the United States at 6, was a stand out runner in HS and went on to run at BYU. He was a three-time NCAA first team All American in track and field and a three-time NCAA All American in cross country. He helped lead the BYU Cougars to podium finishes at the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Rory ran his first post-collegiate race in the summer of 2019 at the Canadian 10,000 meter Championships where he finished third. He was then named to the Canadian team for the 2019 Pan American Games where he finished 6th. In the fall he made his marathon debut in 2:16:42 at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. He then kicked off 2020 by setting a team record of 1:01:44 at the Aramco Houston Half Marathon–his first ever half marathon. He was second in July at the St. George Showdown 5,000 and 9th in October at the Michigan Pro Half Marathon. (Source – NAZ Elite Website)

Episode 91: Krista DuChene https://lindseyhein.com/2017/11/18/episode-91-krista-duchene/ https://lindseyhein.com/2017/11/18/episode-91-krista-duchene/#comments Sat, 18 Nov 2017 01:24:48 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=6047 more »]]>

Episode 91 of I’ll Have Another is with Canada’s Marathon Mom, Krista DuChene. Krista runs professionally for Saucony and holds a marathon PR of 2:28:32 and a half marathon PR of 1:10:52. She also competed in the Rio Olympics in the marathon in 2016. Krista is the mother of three and she ran that marathon PR at the age of 36. Let’s just stop there. Wow. She’s also a Registered Dietitian and Public Speaker.

But let’s back up. She grew up playing hockey and even played in College, placing 4th in the National Championships. Krista ran her first marathon in 2002 in a time of 3:28, not realizing the talent that was lying underneath the surface. She continued to run recreationally, decreasing her time with each marathon. After running a 2:50 marathon on minimum mileage, she hired a coach and kept chipping away her time. She ran a 2:28 marathon in 2013, breaking a 28 year Canadian Marathon record behind fellow Canadian runner Lani Merchant. The following year she broke her femur while running a half marathon and come back to run an Olympic Standard in the marathon, just 10 months later.

In this episode we talk about her journey to becoming a 2:28 marathoner and Olympian. We also talk about balancing family and training as well as how important her faith is. She shares what’s up next for her and what life looks like now in her off season. ENJOY!
