Amy trained with the Bowerman Track Club and in this episode she shares with us about what it was like being coached by Jerry Schumacher and training with Shalane Flanagan.

She is originally from Florida and went on to run at Oklahoma State University. Making huge improvements each year during her time at Oklahoma, she took the 2019 NCAA title in the 1500m in 4:05.98, coming in to beat the reigning champion Jess Hull. (Fun fact- Jess will also be a guest on the podcast soon!)

In 2019, she gave up her last year of eligibility at Oklahoma to turn pro when she signed with Nike and that summer she competed in the USA championships in the 1500 placing 4th in a stacked field alongside Jenny Simpson, Nikki Hiltz, Kate Grace, Shelby Houlihan and more… just missing making the Worlds team by one place. It’s going to be fun to watch Sinclaire get in the mix with these women more in the coming years, especially as she begins her journey training with the Bowerman Track Club!

In this episode we talk about why she decided to go Pro with one year left of eligibility, what she’s most excited about with training with the Bowerman Track Club, having Shalane Flanagan as a new coach alongside Jerry Shumacher and so much more!

If you love my conversation with Sinclaire- I pulled out 15 minutes of our chat and that’s over on my patreon page just for supporters if you’re looking for a little bonus!

What we talked about:

3:15- Why she decided to train with Bowerman Track Club and her recent move

11:40- Signing with Nike after winning NCAAs and deciding to leave collegiate running before her eligibility was up

16:00- Sinclaire’s mindset going into the 2019 NCAA Championships

17:45- What changed in her training and mindset from 2018 to 2019 and how she had the big improvements in her performances

33:35- What her life currently looks like having just moved to Portland

35:25- What it feels like to join a group with world class athletes

37:30- What her current workouts and training plan looks like

48:45-Being coached by Shalane Flanagan

Episode 251: Emily Infeld & Elise Cranny https://lindseyhein.com/2020/05/22/episode-251-emily-infeld-elise-cranny/ Fri, 22 May 2020 11:57:56 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=11965 more »]]> Emily Infeld and Elise Cranny of the Bowerman Track Club join me today on the show! This is the last of the Fun Friday series I’ve been doing over quarantine. I knew it would be a good one to cap the series off with. Big thanks to Koala Clip for supporting this 6 part series!

Emily is a 2015 World 10k Bronze Medalist, a 2016 Olympian in the 10k and a 2018 US XC Champion. You can hear more from her in episode 21 and episode 147 of this podcast!

Elise is one of the newest members of the Bowerman Track Club- she was a 12 time All-American at Stanford and was runner up at the NCAA championships 4 times.

One fun thing to note is that Elise and Emily were both coached by Coach Chris Miltenberg in college so it was fun to hear them talk about that and then of course being coached by Jerry Schumacher now.

This conversation is super casual and laid back and along with how they are handling training during quarantine, we also get to hear what they’ve been up to outside of running and how they are feeling about the coming year. We also have some fun listener questions at the end and get to hear who on the Bowerman team they think would make the best Bachelor contestant.

Episode 238: Vanessa Fraser https://lindseyhein.com/2020/03/27/episode-238-vanessa-fraser/ Fri, 27 Mar 2020 18:45:45 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=11819 more »]]> Vanessa Fraser runs with the Bowerman Track Club and recently made headlines when she came one second from Shalane Flanagan’s indoor 5K record at the BU Invitational in a time of 14:48.

She joined Bowerman in the summer of 2018. In her first full year as a professional, she represented the US at the World Cross Country Championships and at the Team Europe vs Team USA Match. She also set personal bests at 3000m and 5000m.

It’s safe to say 2020 was off to a great start and she is just getting started in her Pro career!

Vanessa got into running through Girls on the Run when she was in elementary school and went on to run for Stanford – she helped the Stanford team to two runner-up finishes in the DMR and capped college career by contributing to Stanford’s third place finish at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships and by setting the school record for 5,000m in Huesden, Belgium (15:09).

Note- Vanessa an I recorded this interview about 4 weeks ago, so it was before everything got canceled and at the time the Olympic trials and the Olympics had not yet been postponed.

She just broke the American Record in the 3K at the BU Last Chance Invitational. She ran a time of 8:25.70 – followed by her teammates Shelby Houlihan and Colleen Quigley who also broke there record Karissa got there first though and now she is an American Record Holder!

Karissa runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club under Coach Jerrry Schumacher. This is her second year with the team and 2020 is off to a great start, along with grabbing that 3K American Record, she has also run a mile PR (4:24). Was 2nd in the 3k and 3rd in the 1500 at USA indoors.

Before joining the Bowerman team, she ran for The University of Missouri where she was a 6- Time NCAA Champion – walking away from the school as the most decorated female athlete of all time.

Karissa brings a lot of positive energy to this conversation and you’l hear that when you listen! My biggest takeaway- Anything can happen!!

Shelby Houlihan just broke the American Record by four seconds in the 5K in a time of 14:34 in Heudsen; which gave her a personal record by 26 seconds. In this episode she tells us the progression of how the goal to break the American Record went down. Her coach, Jerry Schumacher has known her potential and the process has been nothing short of a well thought out methodical progression. She was paced by teammate Shalane Flanagan and 1500 Meter competitor for New Balance, Corey Mcgee. She’s been running so fast this year and has shownthat she’s the real deal with her competitive nature and insane kick.

Shelby runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club and I love interviewing the crew over there; Shelby is no stranger to this podcast- check out her other episodes (Episode 50 and 108). Shelby is just as fierce and excited about her dreams as she was in the first two episodes we recorded. She’s a 2016 Olympian and has dreams of making the American 5K scene more competitive on a World Level.

And guys- no she’s not changing her IG or twitter handles and spills that she even plans to possibly race an 800 this fall! Look out for her to put down some more fast times in the coming months when she’ll compete in the Diamond League final in Brussels and the Continental Cup in the Czech Republic. My bet is she grabs herself another American Record; in the 1500 this time.

We’ve got a Bowerman Bro on the show today! Evan Jager is a two-time Olympian (2012 & 2016) and runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club. He holds the American Record in the 3,000 Steepchase and trains under coach Jerry Schumacher and Pascal Dobert.

Evan ran for the University of Wisconsin for only one year before turning to Professional running. It was a bold move and we talk about the decision to follow his coach (Jerry Schumacher) and pursue his dreams in Portland. He finished his college degree while training professionally in Portland. Shortly after turning pro, Evan suffered an intense ankle injury that left him not running for 6 months. We talk about navigating that in this episode, along with moving from a 5k runner to the Steeple Chase as his main event. We also talk about successes and other hard times in his career; like when he he won a Silver medal in the 2016 Olympics or when he was on track to break the 8 minute barrier in the Steeple and fell on the last water jump in Paris in 2015 at the Diamond League. Evan proves that when competing at the highest level, having the right mindset ad being your best self in training and come race day are a huge component to success.

Enjoy!
