She just broke the American Record in the 3K at the BU Last Chance Invitational. She ran a time of 8:25.70 – followed by her teammates Shelby Houlihan and Colleen Quigley who also broke there record Karissa got there first though and now she is an American Record Holder!

Karissa runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club under Coach Jerrry Schumacher. This is her second year with the team and 2020 is off to a great start, along with grabbing that 3K American Record, she has also run a mile PR (4:24). Was 2nd in the 3k and 3rd in the 1500 at USA indoors.

Before joining the Bowerman team, she ran for The University of Missouri where she was a 6- Time NCAA Champion – walking away from the school as the most decorated female athlete of all time.

Karissa brings a lot of positive energy to this conversation and you’l hear that when you listen! My biggest takeaway- Anything can happen!!

Colleen Quigley just won her first National Title in the Mile and I could be happier for her! She is a returning on the show for a third time and we get to talk about what she’s been up to in the last year and what her plans for the future are as well! Colleen is coming of a year of on an off injuries and talks openly about those experiences. Make sure you go back and listen to the first two times she’s been on the show- episode 50 with teammates Shelby Houlihan and Courtney Frerichs and episode 103 for a solo episode where we really learn about her back story!

Colleen runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club and made her first Olympic team in 2016 in the Steeplechase and placed 8th in Rio. Her running career started in high school when she realized she had real potential and ended up winning state in the 1600 and the 3200 her senior year. She went on to run for Florida state where she won an NCAA title her senior year, heading straight into competing at Worlds in Beijing where she placed 12th.

Enjoy my conversation with Colleen!

Episode 133: Shelby Houlihan Bonus https://lindseyhein.com/2018/07/28/episode-133-shelby-houlihan-bonus/ Sat, 28 Jul 2018 11:17:08 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=9207 more »]]>

Shelby Houlihan just broke the American Record by four seconds in the 5K in a time of 14:34 in Heudsen; which gave her a personal record by 26 seconds. In this episode she tells us the progression of how the goal to break the American Record went down. Her coach, Jerry Schumacher has known her potential and the process has been nothing short of a well thought out methodical progression. She was paced by teammate Shalane Flanagan and 1500 Meter competitor for New Balance, Corey Mcgee. She’s been running so fast this year and has shownthat she’s the real deal with her competitive nature and insane kick.

Shelby runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club and I love interviewing the crew over there; Shelby is no stranger to this podcast- check out her other episodes (Episode 50 and 108). Shelby is just as fierce and excited about her dreams as she was in the first two episodes we recorded. She’s a 2016 Olympian and has dreams of making the American 5K scene more competitive on a World Level.

And guys- no she’s not changing her IG or twitter handles and spills that she even plans to possibly race an 800 this fall! Look out for her to put down some more fast times in the coming months when she’ll compete in the Diamond League final in Brussels and the Continental Cup in the Czech Republic. My bet is she grabs herself another American Record; in the 1500 this time.

Episode 132: Gwen Jorgensen https://lindseyhein.com/2018/07/27/episode-132-gwen-jorgensen/ https://lindseyhein.com/2018/07/27/episode-132-gwen-jorgensen/#comments Fri, 27 Jul 2018 12:50:27 +0000 https://lindseyhein.com/?p=9203 more »]]>

Olympic Gold Medalist Gwen Jorgensen joins me today! Gwen is a triathlete turned long distance runner who has always had a deep love for running. Gwen is not only a 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist in triathlon, she’s also a 2014 and 2015 World Champion. She was recruited to compete in triathlon by USA Triathlon after college where she both swam and ran for the University of Wisconsin.

Gwen now runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club and is married to an amazingly supportive husband Patrick and together they are raising the most adorable little boy who is about to turn one; Stanley. We get to talk about post partum fitness and what that training looks like in this episode as well as the transition from Triathlon to running. I know you’re going to find Gwen to be so kind and fun and relatable even though she competes at such a high level.

Enjoy!

Olympic Steeple Chaser Colleen Quigley joins me on the show today! Colleen runs for Nike with the Bowerman Track Club and made her first Olympic team in 2016 and placed 8th in Rio. Her running career started in high school when she realized she had real potential and ended up winning state in the 1600 and the 3200 her senior year. She went on to run for Florida state where she won an NCAA title her senior year, heading straight into competing at Worlds in Beijing where she placed 12th.

Colleen had a successful modeling career in high school and made the decision to pursue running in college, rather than modeling- something she doesn’t regret and is very happy about it. Over the past several years she has dealt with injury on and off and has become quite the mermaid in the pool – we talk about the seclusion of cross training through injury and how you’re never the ONLY one going through it. Colleen is quite the entrepreneur herself as she is delving into a legit granola business on the side (we are doing a giveaway on Monday on Instagram so make sure you are following both Colleen and I! Steeple_Squigs & LindseyHein626).

In this episode, she puts big goals out there, which you know I love and tells us all about her relationship with her Bowerman Track Club Babes & what it’s like to train with so many close friends. She also goes into the heartbreak of being DQ’d at Worlds in London last summer and that bittersweet moment of watching her two American teammates medal in the event- a huge milestone for the American Woman Steeplechasers! She’s got an exciting career ahead of her and just WON the Wannamaker Mile at the Milrose games last week! I can’t wait to cheer her on with the rest of you.
