Sorry, but I have to disagree. I’ve always been able to fit it all, finding the time to work out even during my busiest seasons when I’ve been known to pull all nighters or to sleep on my studio floor. But since having a child, there are days when I absolutely don’t have the time. Getting up every 2-3 hrs for feedings, trying to take care of my child, running my own business, making sure my family is fed, etc…a bunch of full time jobs. And if that means that at 3pm I have to take a nap instead of working out, so be it because if I don’t, I lose the ability to function.

I’m surprised there wasn’t more negative feedback because people are so defensive but…obviously I agree with you 🙂

But line me up with your younger sister. Some of us just aren’t part of the endorphin-high exercise craze. Yep–“too busy” just livin’ my life. I am one who gets a 30 minute walk in each day, walks at her kids’ soccer practice instead of sitting in the car (most days ;-), and who generally spends a lot of time doing SOMETHING, but I’m not looking to add exercise into every spare minute, nor would I consider any of the above a workout. In fact I would say that I never “workout.” And I’m okay with that. I move as part of the things I need to do in my day-to-day life, but there’s not workout section in my day planner. Is some of that lazy?–sure. But some of it means that quite frankly I’d rather be reading a book, and there are more things in life than working up a sweat. So tread lightly, friend–not everyone is inclined to be “workout” material.

I was one who for far too long found an excuse to avoid the workout. Building it in to the day has made a world of difference. There are many things that can be put off for a bit and done at a more convenient time. Everything? No. Will this work for everyone — all the time? No. But it is a fair challenge to throw out there and see where we can create far more time than we ever thought possible. #1 time saver here — no TV. Do I miss it sometimes? Yes. How many countless hours has it made free for running, making beer, talking, reading, staring at the clouds in the sky? Hard to count.

You were there for your husband’s race the same weekend we were there for the triathlon. Your story of everything you’ve been through hooked me! You rock!

Hey! Oh, sorry that this post bothered you so much. Excuses aren’t totally always garbage and I for one can’t imagine having my husband out of town that much- I would go crazy! Hats off to you. I guess my point here really is that MOST people make excuses when they in fact could turn off the TV or put their phone down and go exercise, or utilize a lunch break in that way. That being said- of course there are always exceptions and special situations. I suppose the post was meant to more give a kick to those who DO make excuses that are invalid, because a lot of times they are. (Hence why I called out my own sister who is the queen of them!) Thanks for reading and I hope you stick around! 🙂 Cheers!

That being said, I know you have six comments so far that are thumbs up on this post but I’m thumbs down. I know this post was meant to be inspirational but everytime I read posts like this on blogs or on FB, I get sad, depressed, down about my life, and a bit angry. I wasn’t going to comment but honestly I haven’t been able to get this off my mind all day since reading it. I am a person who runs while my kid is at speech therapy instead of sitting in the waiting room. I’m a person who does push-ups while wearing a dress in my classroom at 6:30 AM before the students arrive. However, sometimes life really does get in the way of the workouts that I ideally want and need to do. Full time job, husband out of state 75 days a year, four year old with a crying, screaming, melt down four times in two hours. I cannot even tell you how depressing it is to only see your kid one hour a day sometimes. So maybe the excuse is “I want to see my kid instead of go on that bike ride that I should do” or the excuse is “if I don’t get some sleep I’m going to go insane and / or die in front of 165 students tomorrow”. Sometimes I don’t think that excuses are “garbage” at all.

So I disagree but we can still be friends though. 🙂
