Hey Jen! Thanks for the note. I am going to give it a go on Saturday…nothing to lose, right? I’ll look for your Bro…based on his Columbus time he could take the win for depending on the day…64 minutes or so won it last year.

Glad to hear you’re doing IMM and looking at your post on it you’ve got the right approach.
As for that 2:59:59 or better… pretty sure I’ll have to settle for the age graded sub-3 that I ran with my PR in late Sept. I obviously don’t count it as such, but to the extent those estimates are accurate it confirms what I thought — that I could have gone there in my day.
Funny story on that — I was chatting with Christie about the photo from the booth at Columbus and the GHEIN83 — I was trying to figure out what 83 meant. Year of graduation? No. Oh crap — year of birth – remembering you turned 30 around the time of Eagle Creek Trail race! Man I felt OLD having graduated from HS in ’82!
Looking forward to stopping by the BOMF booth after leading my pace group to their goals and hearing the fantastic news that you got a PR and met your goal. But know that if you didn’t that you’re comfortable with the plan … and that if not now it will be yours soon enough!

Better late than never on weighing in here, right? I had a similar experience in 2011. I was in shape to go low to mid 2:40s. Everything leading up went right and I was feeling great. It didn’t happen on raceday for many reasons. I came in with my slowest time since I started actually training for marathons. It was heartbreaking! And everyone said “I’d love to run that fast on a bad day” but it was so depressing for me for so long. So, I signed up for another marathon 4 weeks later. I didn’t tell anyone. I thought maybe I needed to be away from the pressure. During the recovery and buildup, I wasn’t able to get back into the game mentally. I still had high hopes, but it just didn’t feel right. Sure enough, on race day I dropped out at 16 (my only DNF) due to IT band pain (not recovered physically), and not into it mentally. Does this mean I think you shouldn’t race IMM? No way! I just think you should do whatever you want, what you feel in your heart. If you feel like you aren’t recovered mentally (and/or physically!), I’d say take some time to focus on something else like 5ks, or whatever other distance you like and come back in the spring ready to get after it. If you feel totally recovered and like there’s a fire inside you that needs to race again, then go for it! You could get that huge PR!
GOOD LUCK on your decision!
P.S. My younger brother Jason Ordway, is running the half at IMM. He runs for Saucony. He should be one of the leaders so if you see him there, say hi or cheer if you end up spectating instead of running!

I’ve not decided yet but I know I will at some point.

Thanks Scott! I feel bad that you had a crap fest at Grandma’a but it is encouraging to know that my chciago is not alone. I like the attitude.

It will probably be IMM or nothing at this point. It is just such an easy option. Probably going to pace with a training partner for a 2:50 or so.

Hahaha…yep. People mean well and are just trying to help but it drives me crazy to hear that statement!

Good luck at CIM. Fast course. Here’s to flying!!!

Thanks Mike! You are right, the mental aspect is the toughest. You going to run Carmel again? I think that is going to be my Spring race…at least the Half.

It is all relative! Effort is effort. Yeah quitting was never an option…you made the right call to finish is out.

Probably going to run a local race here soon and then call it a season.

Thanks for the note!

Yeah I don’t know…the start is weird. It is very tight and congested with lots of turns through The Loop. I really didn’t care for it at all. Once you begin your way north it got better but yeah the first couple of miles were tough and threw me off.

Thanks Dan! I’ve been thinking about having a coach a lot lately. I’m going to run IMM with Collin most likely and then transition to Spring training in early December after a easy Nov.

Hey don’t sell yourself short on that 2:59:59 🙂
