Foot nonsense: The last two pairs of shoes I’ve purchased have been the result of analysis at running stores. On long runs my left middle toe gets numb, and I have pain in some or all of my foot. What I _think_ is that, regardless of a lot of good reasons why I should have a big shoe, what I really need is a neutral. Next time I’m in the market I’ll insist. It could also be that Asics are not for me. It’s super frustrating.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I actually thought about you guys during my speed workout this week. It sucked and I didn’t quite hit my last interval (I think I had mentally just given up because I knew the tempo I set for myself was borderline above my fitness level), and I remembered Lindsey writing about giving up in a recent post. So I finished the interval, although not perfectly. The point? Thanks for writing a great blog and sharing the good AND the bad with us!

Hey Sam! Thanks for reading!!! Don’t get too down on your running…it comes in cycles for a lot of us! I’d say running a 10 miler and a half is pretty impressive! What is going on with your foot? Like PF stuff? It could be the shoes. Have you ever had a shoe gait analysis at a running store? That might be worth it.

With the speed work stuff, you are on the right path. Stick with it. Throwing in up tempo stuff to your normal easy runs will keep getting easier and you will begin to notice a difference. Tweet or email us outforarun.training@gmail.com any running questions. Seriously!

I hope your races go well.

Glenn

I have two races coming up: a 10 miler (one week from Sunday!) and then a half in October. I did an OK 9 miler a couple of weeks ago, and now I’m doing a little bit of a taper for the 10 mile, after which I’ll pick it back up for the half. I’ve been having a bunch of random issues with my feet and/or my shoes, which I also dealt with last year while training for a half. Sometimes I think it’s a little bit of a mental thing, trying to trip myself up before a race.
I’m not training for any kind of speed: I just really like to run. I run by myself, and I don’t understand half of any running lingo. Having said that, I really do want to push myself, but I just don’t know how. I’ve been trying to do one interval run during the week: 3 miles slow, 1 mile fast. Sounds so lame compared to what you’re doing.

Chasing goals: I’d love to pick up a PR on the half, but I haven’t been training for it, per se. This is my third year of “serious” running, and honestly, it’s been the most difficult. Shouldn’t I be getting better? I’m excited about these races, but I’m in a rut, really.

That was too long. 🙂

I am super-pumped to hear how Chicago goes!
