I’ll Have Another Podcast Episode 71: Tamika Catchings
Today my guest for episode number 71 is Tamika Catchings. I had the opportunity to sit down at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse and talk with her one on one. We even took a selfie together. Tamika played in the WNBA for 15 years for the Indiana Fever, after playing at the University of Tennessee under the legendary coach Pat Summit. She was number three draft pick even though she was injured at the time. Something I know everyone in Indiana would agree was worth taking a chance on. We are truly fortunate to have such an incredible woman invested in our community. She promotes athleticism, and leadership — on and off the court and through her nonprofit “Catch the Stars Foundation.” Just two weeks ago, she had her jersey retired, an honor that very few people get.
Tamika has won so many prestigious awards throughout her career. She has won a WNBA championship(2012), WNBA Most Valuable Player Award (2011), WNBA Finals MVP Award (2012), five WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Awards(2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2012), four Olympic gold medals (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016), and the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award (2002). She has also been selected to ten WNBA All-Star teams, 12 All-WNBA teams, 12 All-Defensive teams and led the league in steals eight times. She is one of 9 women to win an Olympic Gold Medal, an NCAA Championship, and a WNBA Championship. In 2011, Catchings was voted in by fans as one of the WNBA’s Top 15 Players of All Time.
Since retirement form the WMBA, Tamika has become an analyst for ESPN’s SEC Network and also has taken ownership of the cutest little tea shop you’ve ever seen called “Tea’s Me Cafe Indy“. I sat right in the cafe and typed up these show notes. It has a joyful, happy atmosphere and it felt fancy and fun drinking my tea with a french press. I also had a delicious sandwich for lunch. I am pretty excited for it to be my new work spot on babysitter days.
